As one of the quintessential New York City rappers, it's only right that Cam'ron appears on a track that uses the city's namesake as its title. As The Knocks' production bubbles, Cam'ron talks slick about his city, calling it the place "where you can be playing ball or sellin' rocks." Once the beat hits its apex, Cam steps aside and the chorus steps in. Sonically, this is unlike what Cam'ron fans are used to hearing him spit over but for someone who has rapped over The Four Seasons "December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)," nothing is out of his realm. "New York City" will appear on The Knocks' 55 album and the duo spoke to StereoGum about their love of hip hop music and goal to work with an MC like Cam. "New York hip hop has been a quintessential point of inspiration for us throughout our career," they said. "Our early aspirations included working with the likes of Cam’ron, so for us, this collaboration is the definition of a dream come true. We feel very blessed to be able to finally share this with the world, and we hope everyone gets as much enjoyment out of listening to it as we do."
