Yesterday (Nov. 9) marked the 22nd anniversary of two major hip-hop masterpieces: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and A Tribe Called Quest's Midnight Marauders. The latter caught the Native Tongues linchpins at the height of their commercial power and is often held, alongside Tribe's previous record, The Low End Theory, as a defining work of that period. (The folks over at Aux have made a fantastic interactive map of Marauders' famous collage cover.) But for a new remix, J. Cole decided to dig back even further. The North Carolina native today lets loose of his "Can I Kick It?" remix, which pairs his reworked beat to Q-Tip and Phife Dawgs' vocals. The original appears on Tribe's 1990 debut, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. That LP will get a 25th anniversary reissue this Friday, Nov. 17. Listen to Cole's handiwork below:
