Yesterday (Nov. 16), E-40 celebrated his 48th birthday. The Vallejo legend hasn't let middle age slow him down; in fact, the pace and volume of his output have only increased in the last decade. (Those who pay attention to such things might remember that his latest hit single, "Choices (Yup)," came out as part of a planned four-album set, called Sharp on All Four Corners. That came after the four-part Revenue Retrievin' series and the six-part The Block Brochure.) Now, he returns with "Gamed Up," a single that benefits from Rayven Justice's silky hook and Rick Rock's brash, percussive beat. Boasting about his alcohol tolerance and his relative knowledge of martial arts, 40 Water reminds those in and out of the Bay Area that he remains one of rap's foremost technicians. "Gamed Up" is taken from Poverty & Prosperity, an EP that's due out this Friday (Nov. 20).
