The streets were screaming "Badu back!" last week after the soulful singer said in an interview that she plans on releasing a mixtape in the near future. It doesn't seem we're any closer to listening to the comeback project, but Badu does come through with a video via Periscope of her singing "Phone Down," a likely track from the But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape. In the video, she's riding shotgun, swapping out hats as she rolls through Vegas.

The clip is just under three minutes long, but it's rife with material. The song itself sounds hypnotically smooth, the on-the-street reactions as people realize who just drove past are priceless and the headgear roulette goes from unexpected to wildly entertaining. Perhaps above all else though, the best part is that purple smile across Badu's face. She's the type of artist who, when happily making music, can summon all phone's down and asses up. Hopefully the wait for But You Caint Use My Phone isn't too much longer.
