Sheek Louch is New York. The Lox legend is inextricable from the five boroughs, and for good reason--Louch is one of the gruffest, angriest MCs to ever argue for the East. But his latest work pays tribute to a duo from the edge of the South. "Got Damn (Freestyle)," which today (Aug. 21) receives the video treatment, makes use of the beat for "Cotdamn" from the Clipse's debut album, Lord Willin. That LP, which just celebrated its 13th anniversary, started a sea change among rap critics, who moved away from the college radio/quote-unquote "underground" movement of the turn of the century and toward the coke-rap that ruled the middle 2000s. Featuring a swath of the finest Neptunes beats ever made, Lord Willin showcased Malice and Pusha T as two of the meanest, yet most human street rappers in the world. Sheek is preparing his sixth solo album, Silverback Gorilla 2.
