While it might seem as if Rapsody has been kicking around the industry forever, she's a spritely 27, and just beginning to penetrate rap's mainstream. The North Carolina native, first became famous for her association with fellow Tar Heel 9th Wonder, who was just coming off his run of critical magic with Little Brother. Earlier this year, Rapsody had necks craning and casuals fans darting to Wikipedia with her contribution to "Complexion (A Zulu Love)," from Kendrick Lamar's starkly political sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly. More recently, she let loose of a gripping video for "The Man," from last year's Beauty and the Beast EP. (That song inspired a fan to write a scathing open letter to their absent father.) Now, Rapsody revisits that EP once again, adding a Joey Bada$$ verse to the remix of the Merna-featuring "Don't Need It." An interesting note: the cut is produced by Young Guru, long famous as the chief engineer for Roc-A-Fella Records and the keeper of Jay Z's masters.
