You know an artist is on fire when other big name acts start covering and Vic Mensa's rendition of  "Codeine Crazy" proves Future's chokehold on the streets. On the original version, Future takes on the menacing 808 Mafia instrumental with a mix of singing and rapping but on the cover, Vic is in full rock star mode. With his cup muddied up, Vic croons over guitar riffs and puts a ballad twist on the popular mixtape cut. Mensa originally covered the song at last weekend's Pitchfork Music Festival and dropped the mastered audio earlier this week. Telling the story of Icaurs over guitars and drums, Mensa shows great versatility and brings back memories of his time with the band Kids These Days. Between a cover of "Codeine Crazy," "No Chill" and "U Mad," Vic is building an impressive portfolio in a short time. Pour up and give this one a spin.
