DJ Mustard made his mark in the game with a signature sound that included bouncy synths, a catchy "Mustard on the Beat, hoe" tag and infectious hand claps that have been copied by top-40 producers and hip-hop purists alike. Over the past two years, Mustard has produced a countless number of instrumentals with the same formula but on "Why'd You Call" with Ty Dolla $ign and iLoveMakonnen, Mustard switches up the style (but keeps the hand claps) and give his instrumental an EDM twist. Ty flashes his hit-making ability in the first verse, belting out bars before Makonnen drops his voice an octave and comes through with a strong chorus. After that, Mustard shows his versatility by going full trap/EDM, or whatever you want to call it, and unleashes a dark onslaught of sounds that range from a high-pitched whine to a thunderous 808 boom.
