The narrative's been beaten into your head through your RSS feed: After Honest came out last spring, Future's engagement to Ciara dissolved. That sent him on a tear, with three mixtapes and an album--this month's Dirty Sprite 2--in well under a calendar year. This whole time, while the Atlanta visionary writes and records at a breakneck pace, he's been dropping videos on a remarkably disorganized schedule. Clips from last fall's Monster will come out after those from this March's 56 Nights, then Mr. Hendrix and his directors will circle back around with January's Beast Mode. Now, even with a major push behind his first #1 album, and even if the song is ostensibly from DS2, the rapper is hearkening back to old projects. "Kno the Meaning" expounds on the title of 56 Nights, which was so named for DJ Esco's stint in a Dubai jail for having small amounts of weed in the luggage. The song is perhaps the most heartfelt Future's dropped this year, and details how Esco's incarceration forced him into new creative lanes.
