If you got the cheapest train ticket to Memphis, drowned in codeine and filtered your last yelps through Autotune, you'd come back as Snootie Wild. The new, Yo Gotti-featuring "12" is perhaps more restrained than "Play Wit a Brick," but it's full of a sneering arrogance, the kind that make Snootie's jabs land and threats seem sincere. Trying to duck 12, while a worthy pursuit, is rarely reflected better in a song--"12" is the sound of ducking and slinking, bombastic shots mixed in with quiet plotting. Though rap below the Mason-Dixon line is enjoying nothing less than a creative renaissance, Snootie Wild very well may come out the other end as one of Tennessee's finest.
