Mick Jenkins wormed his way into plenty of year-end critics' lists with The Water[s], a dense, technical, cerebral mixtape that married rent bills to moral panic. Now, the gruff Chicagoan--who has been touring with members of the New York revivalist collective Pro Era in various combinations--is back with "Peace of Mind." The contemplative cut is a collaboration with Jayln and The O'My's. (The latter group appeared alongside fellow Chicagoan Chance the Rapper on Nosaj Thing's recent "Cold Stares.") Though it might be posturing for some rappers, Jenkins' opening "I been on the same shit that I was on in '09" is weighed down by the sense of responsibility he has always cited, to hip-hop, to his family, to his city.
