CJ Fly, Chelsea Reject And T’Nah Apex Represent Brooklyn Well In “Go” Video

Chelsea Reject is thoroughly Brooklyn. Her new video, "Go," comes with capable assists from T'Nah Apex and CJ Fly, of Joey Bada$$' Progressive Era collective, and is everything you would expect in an early video from a promising up-and-comer from the Big Apple. The young rapper--she's still just 21 years old--may have been born on Saint Lucia, an island in the Caribbean that's less than 700 square miles, but she has New York embedded deep in her DNA.

Shot entirely in black and white, "Go" feels like the first day at a new gallery--empty spaces, electric creative energy and endless possibilities. Reject shares a good deal with the neo-soul wave from the middle of the last decade; one could imagine her upcoming mixtape, CMPLX, playing equally well from project windows and staid bookstores. Reject croons and wails, but she also reigns in her considerable vocal talents for quick passages of staccato rapping. In turn, CJ Fly brings his crew's trademark formalism, tearing at the seams of his dress shirt in the process.

"Go" is also a welcome departure in that it's a three-rapper party where men are in the minority. T'Nah Apex is a more formally conservative than Reject, turning in a straightforward pass that impresses nonetheless.

Chelsea Reject is a 21-year old MC from Brooklyn, NY by way of St. Lucia. Her CMPLX mixtape is coming out soon. Chelsea Reject was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jamaican & St. Lucian parents Lucinda and Antoine Alexander. When Chelsea was in middle school she began to write poetry, usually performed in a spoken word format. In high school she was encouraged to transform her poetry into rap lyrics, by school mate AK of The Underachievers. Soon after, she began performing at local open mic nights in New York City and garnering attention from other hip-hop artists in the scene.
