Here comes the new Flocka in ya' ears, and Golden Era purists might want to sit down for this one. Even after the release of his surprisingly lyrical "3:30," it would have been reasonable to assume Waka Flocka would return to shouting threats over gunshots. He hasn't. On "5:56," Flockavelli raps (yes, raps) over Golden Era instrumentals from Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, The D.O.C., Mobb Deep, and Craig Mack. Waka makes Five Percenter references, says he feels like both Nas and Biggie, and claims to have been freestyling on his old material. "I was geeked up, freestylin' in my old rhymes back in '09/Now I'm takin' my time, elevatin' my mind." Flocka hasn't gone full PM Dawn on his fans– "5:56" ends with him flexing on a trap instrumental, the old Flocka still very much alive.
