The Roots Focus On An Urban Wasteland In “Never” Video
The mood of The Roots' satirical And Then You Shoot Your Cousin is set with Patty Crash's eerie vocals on "Never." The opening song gets a video that's just as disconcerting.
After the stop-motion animation of "Understand" and "When The People Cheer," The Roots return to live action with a symbolic piece. It's somewhat of a post-apocalyptic Groundhog Day; a young man is driven to insanity and hopelessness as he runs past the same block over and over again. Elsewhere, faceless and disfigured people hang in a hazy area. One can easily connect the image to the faceless youths of urban America.
The Roots performed this song with help from DJ A-Trak on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
