The Northwest is often known for their regional appeal ranging from traditionalist conscious rap to experimental hip-hop. But thanks to success stories like Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, the music scene is starting to get the recognition it deserves. Cool Nutz, a Portland MC, released The Cook Up a while back that showed him embracing a new sonic direction filled with classic soul and boom-bap hitters.

On Nutz’ DJ Quik-produced “The Good Life,” the local veteran teams up with Potluck for a record that trades bars about how far they have come in the game. These tales of coming up are popular in hip-hop and Nutz lays his signature stamp to create an original anthem. The visual, directed by Damon Deacco Fontleroy, stays with a simplistic approach by capturing their favorite things—hustling cash, smoking that good and more.
