seriously, people i’m sure will hate on this post a lot (i haven’t read the comment yet), but you def speak the truth billy, and broke down the whole “dipset movement” better than probably anyone has in written word…even if people don’t like their music at all they have to accept the fact that they have A LOT to do with the trends in hip-hop and def have their fingers on the pulse of rap at all times, they also have the best marketing i’ve ever seen in rap, get rich even though they don’t sell many records cuz of their great koch deal, their great marketing,and business tactics…overall the dipsets get the whole current rap scene/business and how it works better than anyone right now, including mr. def jam jay-z, and mr. interscope 50 cent.

on a personal note, me and my friends sometimes will be blazed and ask random rap questions like “if you could be a member of any rap crew from any time period which one would you want to be in?” and my response was dipset, which got a lot of laughs and hate but i was sorta serious, for a lot of the reasons you mentioned, cuz even though they aren’t the most respected, most skilled, or most groundbreaking, they def are the best at marketing, business, setting the trend in the scene, having a movement, making money with average record sales, and i feel they will be remembered in hip-hop history for these very reasons.
