We have starving artists that have been struggling with release dates being pushed back, sample clearance, and record companies folding under the weight of the major distribution company’s and the billboard’s pressure to commercialize Hip-Hop. Now, we have 2 of the most popular underground mixtape DJ’s getting raided? Now we have underrated artists like Talib literally giving away a whole cd! Thumbing his nose at the industry, and starting his own indie label! Hell, the whole southern explosion on the scene was due to indie labels and underground mixtapes finally getting national distribution! “A Gift and a Curse” as Jay-Z once said and as much as I don’t wish any harm come to these pioneers, I’m glad that the RIAA actually has to come off their high-horse and see our Culture for what it has been for almost 30yrs….POWER!!
