Rapper Naledge to Have Solo LP Translated into Multiple Languages

Tuesday Jan 23 11:31 AM CST posted by xxl staff

Pioneering independent record label Rawkus Records is partnering with Voice technology company Voxonic to translate the new solo album from rapper Naledge, Naledge is Power, into several different foreign languages. Voxonic has developed new patent-pending software that allows a recording to be translated into as many as 1400 different languages while still retaining the unique voice of the original speaker. Naledge and producer Double O, who together make up the group Kidz in the Hall, released their critically acclaimed LP School Was My Hustle in 2006. Naledge is Power will reportedly include production from Just Blaze, 9th Wonder and Pete Rock and is due out in Spring 2007.

interesting concept. But will the lyrics still rhyme in other languages? And how will they translate slang terms, slang is a huge portion of rap lyrics.

In fact, could they translate a super-slang filled MC like Ghostface or Camp Lo into regular english?

Good question homie. I know when my boys talk to their parents in spanish, potugese, and hebrew they use the english term for such words. Maybe it’ll be the same here, but good question fo sho.

Kaisor Sosa says:

That sounds really cool. But I always thought like you can only translate ideas not like word for word in language. And I know for a fact that some songs sound retarded in English when translated from Spanish. But still thats whats up cause it’ll enable artists to reach more people and thats what its all about.
