Phonte and Big Pooh of Little Brother recently announced that they will be releasing their fourth and last album, LeftBack, for this spring.
Originally intended to be an EP, the group shares that they ultimately decided on a full album. “I didn’t want our last record to be a bunch of second-rate material,” Phonte said in a statement. “I wanted to walk away from Little Brother knowing that I gave our fans all that I had to give, and said everything I wanted to say. With Leftback, I’ve done that.”
Not only will it be a complete LP but it will also include four music videos and a DVD of bonus material compiled into a documentary format, something new for the North Carolina duo who’s never been heavy on the visuals.
“Three albums, three mixtapes, one video,” says Big Pooh. “It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense in this day and age. We have always lacked in the visual department, and I think it will be refreshing to finally offer people those visuals.”
The good guys have plans to go on tour this year as well around the release of their album which is slated for April 20.
In related news Phonte was recently nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Urban/Alternative performance category for his work with Dutch producer Nicolay as The Foreign Exchange and he is already planning to drop his first solo album for next fall. The Grammy’s air on CBS this Sunday, January 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. —Brooklyne Gipson

I’m very disappointed to hear that LB is splitting up. Hopefully they haven’t ruled out collaborating in the future.

It sounded to me like POOH had some thoughts on this in his “The Purple Tape”. It was brief but seemed like ther was some frustration behind it

I’ll admit I’m a LB stan to the fullest. Ever since I listened to The Minstrel Show and Chitlin Circuit 1.5, I’ve been a stan ever since. It hurts me to see them split up like this, they are such talented cats when on the mic together. Like Shawty J said I hope they don’t rule out collaborating in the future, especially with 9th….SMH…..
Even though I have all of Little Brother’s albums, I have yet to listen to The Foreign Exchange albums. Are they any good?

the 1st foreign exchange is dope to the fullest with Phonte spitting ‘grown man intelligent’ lyrics & sidekick von p…the 2nd foreign exchange is DOPE too but NO RAPPING…just phonte singing…& Pooh’s ’sleepers’ is thorough but the ‘delightful bars’ is OKAY…Pooh is good in his own right but when compared to the very multi-talented Phonte (ex. think big boi vs. andre 3k, busta rhymes vs. the leaders of the new school)….he can’t compare wit ‘tay’…seemingly he steps his game up a little when he’s rocking with phonte in Little Brother

We need more groups like that to balance the game out. I got most of their albums Foreign exchange is the closest you get to a Phonte solo album but Delightful Bars and Sleepers weren’t too shabby either.

i’ve been down with little brother since ‘The Listening which i place right beside RD and Illmatic…. it tore me to shreds when they parted ways with 9th… i don’t think anything can get worse than that feeling i felt when that happened… so though i am sad to hear that pooh and phonte are breaking up, the damage has already been done to me. i jus really wish phonte would get over whatever it is that pissed him off and jus collab with 9th for their last album… do it for the fans bruh PLEEEEASE
@EmCDL, the Foreign Exchange albums are good too. Connected (which is the first one) is my personal favorite. More rapping on that one. The second one is cool, but just know you’re buying a straight r&b album with that one… but yes… get ‘Connected.
