50 Cent Graces the Cover of XXL’s Dec/Jan Year-End Double Issue

Monday Nov 9 12:06 PM CST posted by xxl staff

As one of the game’s most influential artists, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has the honor of holding down not one but two separate covers of XXL’s special year-end double issue. In the December/January cover story, the G-Unit CEO breaks bread with XXL to talk about his new album Before I Self Destruct, his big year on the Web with his site thisis50.com, his role in hip-hop and much more. Also included is a 10-year anniversary tribute to the making of the record that first brought 50 to the public, “How to Rob.”

Other features in the first-ever Internet Issue are XXL’s list of the 100 Best Hip-Hop Web sites, articles on Snoop Dogg and OJ Da Juiceman, as well as tribute pieces to rap legends ODB and Mac Dre to commemorate the fifth year anniversary of their passing. For the first time ever XXL has two candidates for Eye Candy of the Year, complete with a reader contest to vote for your favorite. But wait, there’s more as XXL reviews the new Gucci Mane album, The State v. Radric Davis.

XXL’s December/January double issue hits newsstands on December 1!!!!

***TICKET GIVEAWAY***

I guess now we know why Bol’s blog about the leak of BISD got pulled from the site…

Doesn’t matter, already downloaded it and its alright, not his best, but not his worst…

Still I look at 50 like Ja back in 03, his time has come and passed as an artist, hope he continues to invest wisely in other areas

Really…two cover…??? I know he has an album coming out and is hot right now…I know XXL is proud of the fact that they had Fif’s back from day one…but don’t you think two covers is a little excessive. Do you expect your circulation to increase that much, because you shot two covers???

I mean, Who else is really relevant enough to but on the cover besides him? No one else in the rap world is making as much noise as him. As much as some hate to say it. As much as the 50 or so people that comment on here hate it, there are thousands that love it and will go buy the magazine. Loyal fans will go buy 50 toilet paper if he pitched it. XXL is smart. Hell I would but him on there over ANYBODY at this time. Someone name a more talked about project that is coming out in the next couple months? There are none. XXL is capitalizing just like 50 is.

Nate says:

Lesotho, no ass kissing is going down on 50.

I predict he will NOT get 50+ pages of material like JAY-Z got (it was something crazy like 40-45% of the mag) for his album, and 50’s albums always do even better than Jay-Z. If you count the 1-20 pages of Rocawear ads, the 10-20 of reviews of his old albums and his new, and the reviews, etc Jay-Z got the most pages dedicated to him than I have seen in ANY XXL issue.

Now if 50 wasn’t relevant, wasn’t popular, didn’t sell, or had no talent, than somebody somewhere could have an issue. I’d rather point out some of the covers where they just put OJ Juiceman and other Southern no sales bitch boys who had no place on there. Even in the issue with the up and coming artists about half or 2/3rds were o.k. with some that didn’t even belong. I think it’s o.k. to put the #1 or 2 top sales giant of the decade on a cover if it’s been a year and a half or two since he’s been on. Jburg is right. You guys wouldn’t be crying if you were as lame as the “sauce” right now putting “Young money” on the cover. “WHAT THE F have they done” other than a slaughterhouse review and one decnt interview that last Source mag was 100 pages of trash. XXL doesn’t ever stoop to that point.
Even though I didn’t like 50 pages of Jay-Z I felt having a cover in itself was NEWSWORTHY and RELEVANT.

Let’s just hope that 20 pages on Fif is enough and the rest of the usually great double issue covers all the cool things we like to see… Like best albums, slept on albums, sales achievements, etc..

LMAO…dude…if didn’t wait two years to read the magazine again you would see they don’t talk about the same artist

They had the Dips, The Freshmen Class (Kid Cudi and them lol), Cube, Jeezy, of course Wayne, An Atlanta Edition, a Miami edition, etc…..

It’s obvious ppl like you dont pay attention until somebody like 50 or Jay-Z on the cover

@ Nate

Come on man, 2 covers? 50 cents relevance in the game now is about destroying alliances. I didn’t know that hip hop’s measure of relevance has come to that. Look at the history of XXL with 50. its nothing but subjective support. 50 can’t do no wrong with them. 50’s glory days have gone and now he is milking a dead cow. Its sad that hip hop has to to a stage where there are no better rappers to put on 2 covers than a recycled 50. Yesterday XXL even had a song review where they called Rick Ross ‘officer ricky”. i’m not a ross fan per se but come on man! XXL has lost it. Nothing can ever justify that. Can a magazine stoop that low and still call itself objective? What is the difference between what XXL did and what Benzino did with the Source? Do you really think that XXL would ever be critical of 50 or call him any disparaging names? NEVER. XXL SHOULD START CALLING ITSELF “THIS IS 5O MAG”.

LOL…SMH…it’s funny how you’re the only one saying this about BISD…Even the Hip-Hop sites that dedicate their selves to hating on 50 is feeling this album.

And if you were a dedicated fan, in no way would you say this Cd was worse then Curtis. Cause Curtis out of all his Cds was bad cause he was trying to crossover.

And what you mean he had his time? Dude making more noise now then he did with the Kanye gimmick for Curtis.

You my friend…are not a big fan to boot like you say you are

Yo,

we all hear the same type of music erryday man… i thought Jay-Z would give us something diff but honestly nigga eating off the same plate as Gucci… DNT PANIC JAY-Z STANS let me finish… i’m not from America but as an African our opinion of black people in america has always been shaped by the music and the stories y’all tell through it. back then (biggie and pac) we understood that blacks were oppressed, racism was rife and it was all about survival. Nowadays it’s all about who’s got the smoothest white man’s brand of clothing. the harder it is to pronounce a a fashion label the better it is, you gotta cop that ish. WTF is a Loui Vuitton Don, fuck outta here man. you mean to tell me nobody is still selling drugs anymore? nobody is still in a gang just for survival in the hood? nobody walks around with a 9?

thank god for 50s BISD… it’s just another perspective of hip hop that has been concealed for the last couple of years. your government buys this lollipop music so u can sell millions and stop making music about the real lives most black people are living. trust.

Same way with BISD….some of the tracks are iffy….but it’ll grow….cause I havent listened to nothing else since this Cd dropped
