Let me pose a question? Are these rappers really lying though? Let me break it down. Do you know how drug induced American society really is? I suggest you do your research on that. Not just the hoods were dealing with drugs and its issues. The entire country was and still is.

In fact, drugs were the rich white man’s high anyway. All they did was pump the drugs and guns into the ghettos, so we can kill each other over it. The burbs was pushing weight and had the Kingpins before the hoods.

You either had to be rich or an entertainer to mess with the drugs back in the day. I’m not just talking about the 80’s crack epidemic. I’m talking about from the 50’s on up. If you weren’t selling or using, you knew somebody that did.

I’m speaking from experience. I have 4 older sisters two of them were major drug addicts. One Coke, the other was on Crystal Meth. Currently, another sister of mine is an alchohol and weed head.

Growing up in the inner city, and the enviornments we were in, how could you not know about it. It was right there. You didn’t have to sell it or use it to know about it. I can tell you right now what’s on the market, what’s being used, what’s the most popular choice. The different forms of each drug and so fourth. I knew the people who sold it.

I can get on if I wanted to. But I chose to stay away from that, because I saw literally first hand what that “poison” (because that’s what it is really) does to people’s lives. My own father, was like you know I could make easy money right now. I could clock a G a day 30 G’s a month easy. But, I won’t be feeding any poison to my people. I’m better off being the repsectable honest dude. It ain’t worth it.

As far as Hip Hop and the entertainment industry period. It’s 10 times worse with the drugs and alchohol. Not only is it more access to it, a lot of these artist use it as well. It’s rampit in the industry. It’s not just Hip Hop, it’s other genres, such as rock, heavy metal ect…so it’s worse than it is on the streets. Why single Hip Hop out though? Sex and violence is in American society period.

So are these rappers really lying? The answer is no, in a sense. All they are doing is reflecting what American society has been doing and is under for years. I don’t care what background you come from. Everybody has or had some type addict in their family, or they know somebody who was one.

Now, how these artist portray it or glorify it, and the influence of it is different.

First of all, I think it was a good article well written and researched.
As an old school hip hop head from the BX drugs were prevalent before we started rapping about them.
As a DJ I play good music. I’m looking for good beats and a good flow. The lyrics put records over the top. By that I mean is it just another joint or is that a classic.

In conclusion I hope my blog influences some one to use their creativity and passion to make some good music about the world they want to see. Speak about the drugs and place you want them in your world. Speak about religion, women, the court system, taxes, war, weapons of mass destruction, politricks, our elders and the hood.

A lot of the drug reference in rap is very general. It doesn’t mean they are directly talking about them (that would be stupid), even though they could be. So they speak about it in general terms, or find a creative way to tell a story about it. Even the movies that are based on true stories, change the facts, names, places ect…even add some fiction in it.

As a Person tyring to get in to the rap game,if not that at least be respected locally, I have to say there is a lot pressure from the rap music industry.When I say pressure, I mean the pressure to be like some ones else or follow/imitate the styles and trends put on by other rappers.
When a lot of the hardcore rappers now a days saturate their lyrics with shit bout selling drugs and how many mofuckas they have mercked, makes one get the idea that there is only demand in the industry for songs with references of drugs or violence in them.
I dont think I am wrong to say that most of the mainstream is dominated by the so called “crack rap” and is less diverse as compared to how it was before in the early 90’s. Back then, the content of rap music had much more of a variety to;from sociall conscious shit to gansta rap shit.
But today it seems like socially coscious cats linger in teh underground(except for a couple like common sense) while gangsta rap and cocaine rap dominates.
So has making rap mainstream dumbed it down?Are aspiring MC’s forced to layer their raps with fabricated tales of drug dealing n crack selling. From what I have seen….yes.And from what I have seen many a times,this is also because the larger audience whom rap caters to tend to be white people.Not trying to be racist, but I hope you kno what Im getting at.Peace!

After Vac, you pick up your shit and head back to varsity and continue to get your engineering degree…That is reason.
