• Update: Kanye West “Shocks” Fans at Intimate NYC Performance [With Exclusive Videos]

Thursday Aug 6 11:48 AM CDT posted by xxl staff

Hundreds of fans and industry execs gathered Wednesday night [August 5] at an exclusive Casio G-Shock party at Cipriani in New York to catch a performance by Kanye West as part of G-Shock’s “Shock The World” promotional tour.

The highlight of the night was the long-awaited performance by Yeezy. He came to the stage dressed in all black with straps wrapped around his arms. Abstract lights and dancers filled the stage as he started his hour-long set with “Coldest Winter” from his latest album, 808s and Heartbreak. He also performed his verse from “Run This Town” [Watch Here] which is the first single from Jay-Z’s upcoming album, The Blueprint 3 and “Flashing Light.” [Watch Below]

Russell Simmons, Bun B, and his rumored girlfriend Amber Rose were all at the concert. “Get Em High,” “Amazing” [Watch Here] and “Robocop” [Watch Here] had the crowd singing and dancing along. The show wouldn’t have been complete without a few rants from the Chicago rapper about paparazzi and the fame that he can’t escape. He ended his show with “Stronger” and thanked G-Shock for having him.

Kanye, Jay-Z, and Rihanna are rumored to be taping the video for “Run This Town” this weekend in New York City. – Kamaria Gboro

I already have in 2007, and it was memorable. He arrives 20 mn late, but did a lengthier set than what he’s supposed to. Just him, a dj (A-Trak), and a crazy hypeman. It was around the time Stronger and Can’t Tell Me Nothing was leaked. Man, it was just wonderful!

Is Kanye the “king” of Hip Hop now? I mean would it be fair to call him that now? If the Source was what it use to be, would he be sitting in that throne, with the crown on like Biggie was for NY?

first, clothes, singing, talking about ur mommas death, and talking about emotions don’t make u gay. kayne stay with a fine girl, and its dudes who talk hard act greesy swear they thugs and stay with niccas using a lot of gay refrences in their lyrics too. kayne keep it real…sometimes to real.

second, kayne ain’t the king but he is one of the top elite in the game right now. its really no dominate artist now. its like the nba after jordan left. no clear cut throat ripper outer. kayne is very consistant, but he don’t got that killer instincts. he does have like great beats, creative flow, style, great content, but his lyrical skills are a little off. like kayne spits one dimensional raps.

i would say ye is king b/c who else would we give it too? wayne?! i KNOW hip-hop fans don’t wanna be represented by his ass if we were talking maybe 2-3 years ago i would gladly put fif up there, i think kanye has been on a roll, as of say january he has been murduring all of his guest apearances, it seems the richer he gets the better he gets which is weird cuz for most artists there better in they’re earlier days
