Don’t say I never did anything for you. Here is the “Show Me What You Got” lyrics transcribed for the Jay-Hova worshippers. Personally I think Just Blaze bodied him on his own shit. And if this is the level of lyricism we’re expecting to bring New York back, then I guess I’ll be patiently waiting for The Carter 3. You put Weezy, T.I.P or even Ludacris on this same beat and they’d kill it 300x better than the old man. Oh well, there’s always freestyles on mixtapes. But one line that’s actually making me ponder:
Ok. Lets make a list of people he could be talking to here:
Nas
Santa Claus
God’s Son
Escobar
Young William Wallace
Well if you ask me (New York Magazine did), Jay is serving Nas a nice cold dish over revenge with some ether in the saltshaker.
Without further ado, the lyrics:
Intro:
“This…is…a…state…of…emergency
What you want me to do I’m sorry. I’m back”
“Hands up and wave…and wave….and wave…and wave”
Waving is gay no matter how you do it. If I see any of you with your hands up waving in the club, I’m putting you on blast.
1st Verse
“Give the drummer some
I already gave the summer some
It’s the winter’s turn
Hovie Hov is the coldest
I’m just getting better with time
I’m like Opus…One
Young, no two alike like a snowflake
You know its bad when that’s the best line in the song. Although this website would beg to differ.
Ok, Show me what you got babe
Words is slurring engine purring
Mami frontin but I’m so determined
Shots of patron now she’s in a zone
I ain’t talking about the 2-3
Mami in the zone like the homie 2-3
Jordan or James
Makes no difference boo I’m ballin the same
I am the Mike Jordan of recording
Four Jordan references in 4 bars. The MJ love is getting out of control. Time to find a new hero buddy.
You might want to fallback from recording
Rhyming recording with recording and they both mean the exact same thing? He might be hanging out with the other King of NY a little too much
But you right it’s not important
So it forced him to go for the hype
For being brave and they applaud him
Well misery I will assure them
What the hell is he jabbering about?
Aww baby just ignore them
Truth or dare mami listen and learn
I got a drop I just took off the top
It’s your turn”
2nd Verse
“H…O…V….A
Gold bottles of that ace of spade
Why even fool with these other guys? They all stingy
All these dudes know how to say is ‘gimmie’
Gimmie some ass, Gimmie some brain
Gimmie your number, gimmie your name
But if I get one night baby girl I swear
I’ll make you tell those dudes gimmie got you here
This is probably the stuff he was saying to Carmen. In fact, I think this whole song is about Carmen.
I’ll take you shopping, take long trips
When you get old, game goes out the window. It’s time for tricking when you’re past 35. Bollllllin’ talked about it a little in his last blog.
I’ll take the cork off, you can take sips
I’ll take you there, take my time
Take you clothes off, I’ll take off mine
Ma, show me what you got
Hovie in the spot tried to told you I was hot
Tell these other dudes it’s a wrap
Get the fuck out the throne you clone
The King’s Back!

1 word…WACK!!! This cannot be the come back single for jay?? Is he supposed to be the king of NY with lyrics like that?? Sounding a lot like his girls music…The fact that he would not promote Nas’s album so he can “come back” is ludacris. Jay knows that he done said all he had to say..Nas was about to drop another classic and what happens? Hov gets intimidated that someone else may need to step to the plate and bring NY back….This single is disgraceful….

What’s good Sickamore. Nice to see your XXLMag feature. I thought it was a good song, Just Blaze is the master of NY tracks. These cats out will do well to take notes from him. (Probably why my tracks are so hot). ;) Jay-Z did come nice on this track, well balanced verses and all, well maybe it was a mediocure track. But, due to the state of mainstream rap nowadays it’s refreshing to hear Jay back on the mic as with Lupe Fiasco, and soon comming NaS, Kanye, Common, Mos, and Raekwon. Looking forward to working with you whenever I make it to the top.

Honestly im feeling you….i think the single is ehhh… and lack originality personally dont see what the hype is all about. Im starting to think that because an artist has reached a certain level in their career that they can jus say what ever and call it a masterpiece. And everyone is all hype about it. I think not and CLEARLY that is not the case i mean i love Jay-Z but this single to sum it up in one word or expression if i may is EHHH

Highly doubt he was talkin to Nas in that “Yall got less than 2 months” line, I jus figured he recorded the track recently and meant whoever else was comin out had til November before he dropped and destroyed the game. Why so critical of Hov doe? The only one you named that would prolly do better than Hov on this track is Weezy, and you should know of all people that a lead single isn’t meant for an artist to go hard. He gave everybody a lil somethin, why give em it all at once? A lot of people are approaching this song wrong IMO.

as out-of-touch/old/irrelevant/etc. as some people are sayin’ Jay is- he still holds so much weight, niggas are dissecting the first single like a fukkin’ frog in science class. Not the album, not the song he called his magnum opus… the SINGLE! Where was the thesis for these other niggas? Even tho’ Wayne is amongst the nicest rappers still out here actively recording and relevant, I’m sure you could find just as many random/blase/suspect lines in his shit.

I dont really think he is sending any subliminals to Nas. I think he’s just saying to the rap game/music industry “Get ready cause y’all got less than 2 months before I drop my album”. I dont even think he’s going at him like that.
Better to drop Jay first and then Nas. Personally I dont even think Nas has finished the album yet, he’s still in the studio putting the touches and what not. He needs to be careful and get this ablum right from a critical, credible and indeed a commerical point view and it’s hard to balance those scales. With Jay it’s all good cause he knows he can throw whatever out there like he used to when he dropped stuff every 4th quarter from 96-04 (Yeah I’m couting that milking that is collision course) and people will eat it up. Def Jam needs a sure fire platinum record for the 4th.
Anyways it feels good knowing Hov and Esco are dropping in the 4th quarter like how they used to (2001 and 2002). The excitment is back in 4th quarter releases (last year was limp I mean all we had was Santana)

The tempo, energy, beat are exceptional but lyrically, na, he said ‘Jordan’ bout 5 times and ‘mami’ bout 10 times. It’s just sloppy, still better than most ish in 06 though.
btw regardless of who is whose boss or who has more paper:
Nas >>> Jay-Z.

The Blueprint’s 1st single: “H To The Izzo” (worst song on The Blueprint)
The Blueprint 2’s 1st single: ” ‘03 Bonnie & Clyde” (Does this song really need commentary)
The Black Album’s 1st single: “Change Clothes” (Better known as “Frontin pt. 2″)
Jay is not stupid. We should all know this. This is his first single in 3 years. You don’t think he is gonna go safe? Come on now buddy. I’ll admit I did a double take and had some resentment for Nas’s shit getting pushed back. Nothing we can do about that now. Let’s just wait for the album to drop. And not the day of. Sickamore you’re a looser. Who gives a fuck about a leaked song that may not even be on the album… ever thought of that dumb ass? I think the nigga is not trying to sound like anyone else, and it shows. To be a legend, you’ve gotta constantly invent new things that people want to imitate theirselves. If Wayne didn’t make up half of his life in his songs, you’d be hating on him and Jay. With niggas like 50 saying that Diddy jacked his flow, it’s no wonder Jay is ryhming with an off-kilter flow. When 6am came out, you was like what the fuck first also. then you heard Beans and Jay kill that weird fiddle beat with an 808. You keep hating on Jay, Sick and you might not have a job anymore. Look at Jayo Felony, DMX, Nas, Dame Dash, and Mobb Sleep. The invisible bully is back, and you know how he did Sean Paul. Watch your step Dickamore… keep doing mixtapes, if you can still after all your snake hating. You a snake, snake, snake, snake. IMO Michael Jordan didn’t make the public feel as if he should’ve come back, neither did Jay. The rappers felt they needed some help with pleasing their fans, so they brought a headliner back to sell tickets for their upcoming concerts(ie. Jeezy, Ross). Just the mention of an album drop on that week in November will cause 600,000 people to go shopping.

Lets be honest yea Blueprint was dope, but that was made before one wack album (Blueprint 2) and after 2 wack album (Volume 3, and Dynasty). Black Album was dope, but that’s makes 2 hot albums outta 5 (really 6, BP2 was a double). So that means, since 1999 33% of Jays music has been dope, that’s an F in ALL classes. The new Jay album is gonna be wack, FACE IT. The best album of the year if not Fishcale, will be made by a former stripper. Hip hop IS dead.

Do you actually believe this 80’s baby bullshit? Seriously, do you? Give it up, Dude. TI, Jeezy, and Wayne have yet to, and most likely never will, do anything to grant them legend status. Let’s say those 3 are in their prime. Do you really think any of them, or fuck it, all 3 TOGETHER, could touch anything by Hov, Nas, or Marshall Mathers in their respective primes? None of those dudes have any lyrical ability. Your credibility is shot, Sick. All you’re doing is pandering to the latter half 80s babies and 90s babies that have no clue what good rap is yet blindly hate anything that’s not on BET or MTV. Sick, You are a disgrace. UNO!

You assholes act like Jay has no idea what ppl have been saying about his guest spots, or his leadership of DJ, or how putrid rap has been since his departure and this year in general. Jay know this is the most anticipated album and comeback in the history of rap music. He’s gonna bring it like nobody’s business, conceptually and lyrically. He’ll be tempted to go for sales, but he also knows that ppl have been begging for him to come back to create thoroughly good music since he left. His singles are to attract the interest of his casual party music fans, as well as to let the rap fans that don’t waste their lives on rap sites know that he’s got an album out. His singles will be fluff, but the rest of the album will be solid. I’m guessing this one will be a classic. Also, I can’t wait to hear how many clever kids call me a dick rider for this. Grow up, assholes.

[...] I’m not completely down on the record, but I also think it’s far from his best work. Weak hook, lazy lyrics and those Bongo Band / Public Enemy / Wrecks-N-Effects / N2Deep horns need to go. Theres a fine line between nostalgia and cheese. Still it should build buzz well enough (we’re talking about it now, no?), and if not Def Jam can always call the feds. Either way Kingdom Come will still be one of the biggest selling rap records of the year. Because rap records don’t sell anymore. [...]

You might wanna fallback from recordin’/
What you write is not important/
so it forced him to go for the hype/
For being brave they may applaud him/
The picture was funny as shit tho, this nigga might really look like that when he’s old
