No one can say Snoop Dogg isn’t honest. XXLMag.com caught up with the West Coast legend to speak about his upcoming album, Malice in Wonderland, and the Doggfather revealed that like his last album he will be recruiting the writing talents of other MCs for the project.
When asked if he will be digging into his rhyme books this go-round, Snoop told XXL that instead he will be the mouthpiece for other rappers’ words. “I got a couple of my little homies that’s putting the pen to the paper,” he shared. “I be letting my homies get on by writing and expressing they thoughts through me. I be letting them have opportunities to be a star through me.”
Although it presently doesn’t have a release date, Snoop says he is about “50 to 70 percent done” with the disc. “I’m trying to finish this tour up and then get back home, do a few things to tighten it up,” he said.
The album, which Snoop describes as a “feel good record,” will be released by MTV. As far as the music, the Long Beach rep says “It feels good, back to the basics. I mean, I don’t do all that hyping, that ain’t my thing. I just go to the lab, drop a single and then drop another single, then drop the album. If you fucking with it, you get it. if you ain’t, you ain’t.”
So far Malice in Wonderland features production by Ty Fyffe, Scoop Deville and Drumma Boy.—Eli Mancini with reporting by Clover Hope

Snoop’s growing softer and softer by the album. Thought he’d want to redeem himself after the sensual seduction flop. But then he decides to go the Ghost writer route that send a wrong message to the cats that used to fuck with him during the Death Row days.

Doggystyle was a masterpiece. After that i just didn’t bother to listen to his albums. It’s so sad that most rappers can never make an album better than their first.(Nas-Illmatic ,Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt) Im hoping the album will atleast be better than ego trippin.
Actually nas last album was pretty good

@Renegade02,
It’s better to have a ghostwriter, hopefully not a wellknown one, because it might be too easy to follow the flow and figure out who wrote the song. Biting is blatant stealing. It’s neither here or there with Snoop right now in his career. He has put in work !!

Seriously, Snoop needs to stop using ghost writers. He can actually rap, he’s good lyrically and furthermore, he’s one of the only rappers I know who actually come off the top off the head when they freestyle.
Still though, I didn’t mess with his last album when i found out he used ghost writers. And I still won’t if he does again.

Snoop has had people helpin write his rhymes since The Chronic and Doggystyle. D.O.C. was the one who helped him back then and its been known that Tray Dee was another one back in the Death Row days that helped write Snoop’s rhymes so I don’t know that there has been an actual time in his career where he has wrote all his own rhymes.

Old Snoop > New Snoop says:
@thelupend Two Rappers Who were able to Make Albums better Than Their 1st
The Notorious B.I.G.
“Life After Death” > “Ready To Die”
Sophomore Lp showed His Growth as a Lyricist
Tupac Shakur
“All Eyez On Me” > “2pacalypse Now”
Though Pac was never a Great Lyricist,He was a Poet & the One thing that was always evident is his Emotion on records which was much more Heart Felt & Mastered with “All eyez on me”
Sorry to say Snoop will never top “DoggyStyle” & Using Younger more time Relvant GhostWriters is just another way to steal the shine from up & coming artist.. So unfortunately it may be Time To retire once you’ve lost that hunger to be creative & have to pay others to do it for you

anyone who uses Ghost Writers is a JOKE. This is rap. I don’t care what anyone says, in the end it’s all about the lyrics you write yourself. There is supposed to be a message or direction of some sort from an album. How can you do that when different dudes write every song? I hope no one endorses this idea. Snoop and Dre realllllly need to re-think shit.

Snoop actualy was spitting some real shit on his twin “Matrix” mix tapes that came out 3-4 years ago (maybe longer). If you have a chance you should try to Bing! them up.
Far as him using ghosties.. I’d venture to say that it probably happens more often than you’d think, even with your favorite rappers. So I give Snoop credit for being real about it, and upfront. Also, Snoop (with the exception of his pre No Limit days, was really never about lyrics. It was always the style and delivery , thats what I look for when I hear a snoop verse. To bad though, wish he would write his shit. Anyone remember the remix version of Deep Cover?
Classic snoop verse below
Splat to a motherfucker face, he fall.
Strong motherfucker cause he starts to crawl.
I guess I gots to load the glock again.
Hit ‘im with the hollow points and watch him spin. Fuck it, I had to do this quick.
Grabbed the glock 17, the clip went click.
Tried to detect, but did not detect perfect
So I creep on that ass, pops him and drops him.
That ought to stop from beatin’ up blacks,
Dead in his tracks, from a full six pack.
Relax, cause I’m about to take my respect.
I aimed the twelve gauge straight for his neck.
Boo-yaa! Boo-yaa! then I fade into the wind.
1-8-7 and it’s on again.

COSIGN!
DO YA THANG SNOOPY!
here’s my 2 cents:
the niggas that write his shit get mad doe, so he is spreading the wealth. niggas always talk about “keep it real” and “you forgot about the homies” but when snoop does something that would really put some money in a nigga’s pocket ya’ll hate?
i wouldn’t agree with a new rapper doing this, but as far as snoop goes, he’s already a made man in this rap shit. he’s one of the only rappers who have actual star quality outside of rapping. translation, he doesn’t need anymore rap money, so i believe him when he says that he’s just tryin to put other niggas on.
AND FOR THE RECORD….THERE AREN’T MANY RAPPERS, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO HAVE AS MANY HIT SONGS AS SNOOP DOGG! so all ya’ll niggas sayin that he’s been wack since doggystyle are either haters or you’ve had you head up your ass for the last 15 years!

i feel you, but at this point i just wanna hear some hot shit…i don’t care who writes it! cuz just like my man said above, you’d be surprised by the amount of ghostwriting that goes on in hip hop. just look at the top artists in the game…drake and gillie have written for wayne, rhymefest has written for kanye. hell, give it to me by jay z was originally a oschino and sparks song! just cuz you don’t write a song doesn’t mean that you don’t have any part in the creative process. which is why most ghostwriters can’t make a hit on their own.

Now back to regularly scheduled programming…
Snoop is that nigga and has been for a while and can pretty much do whatever ever he wants by now. He’s stupid rich, worldwide known and keeps the hits coming (kinda like 3rd Testicle’s face). If he wants to use a ghostwriter, I say we let him… if it’s hot, big up the writers and Snoop. If it’s wack, never hire THOSE ghostwriters again. Period.

This is new to me, as far as I know to this day, Snoop and D.O.C. wrote the Chronic(Snoop wrote the majority). Where did all these other rappers name come in at? I think Kurupt, RBX, and Rage need to go to the person who printed up Snoop and D.O.C. name all over the credits and get a redo.

Listen to each artist CD after the Chronic and Doggystyle and notice whose style changes the most. Rage, RBX and Kurrupt’s flow never changed. Snoop started rappin like Silk the Shocker..lol…and thats sad…it wasn’t until the CD that had him and Xzibit on Bitch Please, did he start getting back to his earlier flow…if RBX, Rage and Kurrupt didn’t write a lot of the Chronics material, then the DOC must have wrote the whole thing himself.
