In their debut week, hip-pop act the Black Eyed Peas hijack the top spot on the Billbaord 200 sales charts.
Although it is no surprise that the group grabbed the no. 1 spot, BEP was one of the artists this week to surpass sales expectations. According to the Nielsen SoundScan the Peas’s latest album, E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) managed to sell 304,100 discs this week as opposed to the projected 215-250K by HitsDailyDouble.
Falling one spot to no. 3 is Eminem. The Detroit superstar hit the platinum mark this sale cycle after four weeks on the charts. Fans copped 87, 500 more copies of the disc this week, making the album’s overall sales number stand at 1,049,100.
Just making it into the Top 10 this week is Brooklyn phenom Mos Def. The rapper/actor’s fourth solo studio effort, The Ecstatic, also exceeded projections pushing 39,000 copies out of the stores. Earlier in the week HitsDailyDouble pegged Mos at the 30K mark.
Former Pretty Ricky singer Pleasure P landed one spot below Mos in his debut week. The album, Introduction of Marcus Cooper, sold 38, 800 copies.
Also premiering on the charts this sales cycle is Yonkers crew D-Block’s E1 compilation disc No Security. The CD just made it into the Top 40, selling 11, 900 discs. – Elan Macnini

LOL ok and so what i mean nobody force u to love 50 but niggas still have a classic album whit grodt so i mean out of about 100 rappers u wont even get one who did a classic album 50 is a fucking rapper and he can rhyme the probleme is that money got to is head to much so everytime he get in the booth he think track like ok you right will get him money but if he would go back to is old style he is a good rapper not the best but a good one maybe in the top 15 at the moment

it was actually Will.i.am and Apldap (however you spell his name) that were with Ruthless as AtBanKlan (A Tribe Beyond A Nation). Taboo came later, and of course Fergie came much later. by no means am i a BEP fan, just a hip hop historian.

Mos Def - “The Ecstatic”, is a classic hip-hop album. He should have moved atleast 50k if Downtown/Universal gave him more promotion, you know they only cater to their top selling commercial artists like Wayne & Akon. We have to take advantage of REAL hip-hop albums that only comeout every few months with all this bullshit in the game.. Mos Def, Top 10 Lyricist dead or Alive. Top 3 Rightnow next to Nas and Eminem.

BEP came a long way. YES.
Did they sell out though YES.
When? After the first couple albums when they added Fergie to get the girls.
They were already GOLD I think on both first albums so they didn’t need to sell out and go extra mainstream. Before Zion I they pushed the boundaries and already made good music. I’m sure they could have gone PLAT without her.
But the lyrcis are often watered down. I couldn’t stand listening to them after the got Fergie.
