• Omarion Signs With Lil Wayne’s Young Money Label, Confirms Rep

Tuesday Jun 2 11:56 AM CDT posted by xxl staff

XXLMag.com has learned that former B2K singer Omarion has indeed signed to Lil Wayne’s Universal imprint Young Money.

After rumors broke out following a message on Tyrese’s twitter account congratulating O on his new deal, a rep for Universal has confirmed with XXL that the R&B singer is the latest artist to join the Young Money roster. The imprint already has a long list of talent including Drake, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda, Mack Maine and Nicki Minaj, among others. It is uncertain if any of the other acts are officially signed to Universal.

Omarion, who has released two solo albums and one joint album with Bow Wow, was formerly on T.U.G/Sony Urban Music/Epic. As of press time he has not released a statement about the new deal. – Elan Mancini

    HNIC says:

In my opinion, they need to go ahead & release a label roster Mixtape, featuring atleast 1 or 2 of the best tracks from each artist or a collaboration from a few acts on the same track, similar to what they did with the “Every Girl” single that they had, a couple of months back.

Otherwise, without Wayne guesting on all of their lead singles, it’s going to be a difficult sell, considering how saturated the market is with new, up & coming acts.

If every formerly major label had done that, it might’ve helped to improve overall music sells across the board & maintained their longivity as a label & solo/group acts as well, instead of so many people falling by the wayside, only to later appear on the milk carton section of the latest XXL issue.

We see how that turned out.

Bow Wizzy probably pissed right now…..

BW: Man, did you tell them about that album we did together? I thought we were a team, dog!”

O: Nigga, I didn’t say shit about you makin’ a video with Chris Brown…

    Nate says:

I heard Drake mixtape yesterday. Dude is WAY (Paris)better than Lil Wayne, doing it without all the gimmiks too. I heard Jae Milz also a couple years ago and he is nice. Too bad the new guys are more original than Lil Wayne. I hope Wayne doesn’t try to get all up and down their songs on their albums.. I can’t stand his guest appearances. He fucks up a lot of peoples records.

HNIC- Black Wall Street did that with journals- that was a NICE comp album. Also Mack 10 did that with Hoo Bangin which was the shit in 1999. Damn, 10 years already. What happens after a year or 2 is the main artists finds out he doesn’t have the time and management skills to deal with each sub-artist on a day to day, and he either gets too involved, or out of touch with the artist. Then also, the artists doesn’t have enough funding, or backing to succeed. Many artists never have anything substantial put out. That might change with Wayne. I don’t like him but it’s possible that he is good with people.

This is the essence of hustling backwards. If you can’t get a real deal why bother announcing your signing to this imaginary label. Maybe to drum up interest and too wash out that bad taste his disaterous collabo with Bow Wow left in his fans mouth. I can’t see why no one isn’t willing to take a chance on the Poor Man’s Usher?

Troof, you aint making money on another rapper’s label. When you sign on another rappers label you have no confidence or money on shit like studio time, marketing, etc. Drizzy shouldn’t have signed with Young Money. He should have signed to Universal and affiliated with Young Money.
