I’m not really a huge fan of Pac’s music. He definitely has some songs that are at the top of my list for great songs, but overall I dont think that he was lyrically better than Biggie.

With that said, Pac is by far the most influential rapper ever. and the reason i put Pac as #2 on my list of great rappers. Although, as i stated before, i’m not a huge fan of his lyrical content, i am a huge fan of his work ethic, vision and drive. To know that he even has this much music left to come out 10 years after he has passed is incredible. And of course some, hell most of it wont sound as good as the ones that he saw get finished, because the producers and other artist that complete the songs don’t have the vision that Pac had to know how to make the song come alive as Pac would’ve had he been here.

I’m not a hater, but i recognize true skills when i see it. Which is why, I’ll always respect Pac. He may not have touched me lyrically, but as a business man and a man in general, he’s one of the best that did it!

Tupac has got to be the greatest and most influential rapper of all time. Even though I am a fan of Biggie’s clever wordplay and laid back style, Pac’ wins this one. Nas is along the same lines as Pac but he by no means is his equal. You could play a Tupac song 10 or 20 years after it was released, and the song would have the same amount of impact and venom. His lyrics are timeless and usually have a message. He is like a rap version of Malcom X. I respect Biggie because he is one of the best ever; he was very clever with his lyrics but they don’t transcend the time element like Pac’s. Pac was a little unfortunate to have so many unreleased recordings out after his death. I believe his impact was lessenned by this. You had many artists he didn’t even like rapping on tracks along with him. The Eminem decision was also a mistake. Despite all of this he is still the greatest and most influential lyracist of all time.

I’m not here to say that Tupac is the BEST rapper that there ever was because, truth be told, I don’t think that he is. True, he was often at war with himself in terms of what he represented between the conscious and the thug persona. I would even go so far as to say that in terms of delivery and flow, I might not even consider him as part of the top ten best rappers of all time. However, he’s still one of my favorite rap artists of all time because of what he had to say and how he said it. What he brought to the game that a lot of rappers before and after him cannot master is the raw energy and passion behind what he had to say.

I agree with a lot of people on this site who said that “Me Against the World” was more of a classic than “Makaveli”. “Makaveli” is MY favorite Tupac album, but I honestly feel that “Me Against the World” was his most definitive album because it was honest and real. More than anything, that was the album that REALLY let the world know that he wasn’t a joke.

Honestly, I could care less about his beefs with Nas, Jay-Z and Biggie because at the time that I liked 2Pac, I liked all three of them–and still do. No, maybe Nas’s move to try to reconcile with Pac was contrived because he supposedly didn’t do it before he died. I agree that Jay-Z, along with Toni Braxton, should have NEVER touched a classic like “Me and My Girlfriend” because he watered down the original feel of the song and couldn’t match Pac’s intensity. Honestly, I used to like Biggie more than Pac because I felt like Biggie was more clever of a lyricist than Pac. However, let’s be realer than real: Pac dissed all three of them, and not one of them could really respond. (Some people allege that “What’s Beef” was directed at Pac, but even if it was, it wasn’t as blatant as “Hit ‘Em Up”.) People usually respond to disrespect when they actually have leverage in which to respond, and an average rapper couldn’t get away with dissing three of the biggest rappers from New York and not get at least one response, point blank period.

Hate it or love it, Pac’s influence on the rap game cannot be removed. Whether he was throwing up THUG LIFE or trying to instill knowledge and affect change, Pac’s spirit and approach is incomparable and unparalleled. Giving Pac his props takes nothing away from Rakim, KRS-ONE, or anyone else that is debated at the “G.O.A.T.”; it’s just giving the man his due credit, that’s all.

If you’ve ever watched that documentary think about what he went through from age 20-25. Being jumped by police on several occassions, shot, went to court who knows how many times, prison, and shot again. All the while trying to overcome a past that included no father, a mother on crack, homelessness and being drug from one ghetto to the next as a child. Jay Z, Nas, Biggie…all them cats have the same story…I sold dope but now I’m rapping about it. Tupac was the true meaning of the struggle and should be an inspiration to every black child in America. As I said before, RAKIM is the GOD EMCEE……..the standard-bearer to judge ALL emcees…..including MAKAVELI! Even JAY-Z said on “TAKEOVER”, when he was dissin’ THE SECOND COMING of RAKIM (ie. NAS), “GOD EMCEE/ ME, JAY-HOVA!” JIGGA wanted that RAKIM respect.
