Former A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip taped an episode of VH1’s Soulstage at Cedar Lake in New York City last night (10/23). The episode is set to air on November 4th, the same day Tip’s new album, The Renaissance, is scheduled to hit stores.
Accompanied by a band comprised of a drummer, bassist, keyboardist and a DJ (DJ Scratch), the Abstract Poetic effortlessly ran through tracks from his solo catalog like “Vivrant Thing,” “Breathe and Stop”
and “Higher” one of his biggest features, Janet Jackson’s “Got Til It’s Gone,” as well as Tribe classics like “Bonita Applebum,” “Scenario,” “Check The Rhyme,” “Award Tour” and “Electric Relaxation.”
In addition to performing oldies, Tip did renditions of his current singles, “Gettin Up” and “Move” and previewed “Fever,” a J Dilla-produced head nodder to appear on his forthcoming album, The Renaissance.
Past Soulstage performers include Wyclef Jean, Raphael Saadiq, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott to name a few. -Marvon Brandon

I’ve always admired A Tribe Called Quest. Q-Tip is one of my favorites. I will catch that “No Doubt!” My wife is too young to know anything about “Bonita Applebum,” “Scenario,” “Check The Rhyme,” “Award Tour” and “Electric Relaxation.” She’s like “What’s the big deal, cause I go crazy when I hear what I grew up on. Keep it goin, Q.
