• T-Pain Takes Top BMI Honors And More In “The Round Up”

Friday Sep 5 1:50 PM CDT posted by xxl staff

T-Pain took home the Songwriter of the Year honors at the BMI Urban Award last night in Los Angeles. The Florida native also nabbed Producer of the Year honors, sharing the award in a three-way tie with J.R. Rotem and Kanye West. T-Pain also performed as the show as he was joined onstage by Rick Ross.

Lil Wayne is gearing up for the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend in Los Angeles. The Cash Money rapper was an opening act last year, but this year he’s set to perform on the big stage. XXL’s Editor-in-Chief Datwon Thomas, and a few other notable experts, weigh in on the importance of Weezy’s scheduled performance. “The energy should be his highest ever, now that he’s the #1 dude in the game,” Thomas said of the October XXL cover star. T.I. will also take to the VMA stage this weekend. The Atlanta rapper and Rihanna will perform their track “Live Your Life,” from Tip’s forthcoming album, Paper Trail. T.I. will be busy promoting his project. In a few weeks, the Grand Hustle boss is set to celebrate the release of his album in New York on September 30 at the Highland Ballroom. [SOHH]

Hate or love Pain..He fucking deserved that award. People do not understand how much more lucrative songwritting is compared to being an artist or even a producer. You have a lot more stream of money coming in. I’m sure T-Pain easily clocked 15-20 million over the last couple of years.

To be honest I aint mad at pain more power to him. He is a good example of what had work, persistence, networking and creativity does for you. Here’s a dude that fits biggies lyrics “Heart throb never black and ugly as ever” yet he was still able to carve a name for him self in this superficial, image driven business.. My top hat goes off to the man..

    JR Rotem ? How ? He sucks…
