I knew this was coming. My dude over at MTV Rahman Dukes told me they were prepping the second installment of “The Hottest MC In The Game” a while back. The show is scheduled to premiere on MTV this coming Friday (May 16). Upon learning about it, I immediately turned around and tried to get J-Rod, formerly of the MTV NEWS Brain Trust, to spill the beans. No luck! I then hit my longtime debate sparring partner, Cash over at SOHH, and aimed him a link to the show’s trailer. We went right at it. Should Soulja Boy and T.I. be on the list? Are Young Jeezy and The Game hot right now? And who’s hotter: Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West or 50 Cent?I’m sure news about the show premiering is already sparking debates. But I usually encounter the same problems when discussing those lists. Folks are unreasonably bias and always disregard the guidelines. Nas is my favorite emcee of all-time, but I agreed when MTV left him off last year’s list. He wasn’t hot at the time. By the way, MTV never claimed to be crowning the nicest or most skilled emcee, but the game’s hottest. Hot is talked about, sought after, influential, productive, successful, etc, etc. It has jack to do with skills. Technically, you can be the most dumpster ass rapper, but still be hot. That being said, Soulja Boy better make the list. Sure, the kid’s buzz is fading, but he’s made undeniable noise from July 2007 through March 2008, MTV’s time frame for compiling the list. He can’t rap. But the kid is hot. Ask your little sister.I’m sure folks will lose their minds if Wayne reclaims his throne, but it’s quite possible. The thing is Wayne was the hottest right around last July, but then Kanye nearly sold a freakin’ million records. Let’s not forget Fif. Dude’s been killing the mixtapes as of late and he’s generating crazy buzz with ThisIs50.com. For my money, Wayne, Kanye and Fif should be in the top 3. I just hope they don’t put DJ Khaled on the list. Here’s who I think MTV might have on their list.1- Lil’ Wayne2- 50 Cent3- Kanye West4- Jay-Z5- Rick Ross6- Soulja Boy7-Lupe Fiasco8- Snoop Dogg9- T. I.10- Young JeezyAgain, I wish I could put Nas on there, but his whole Nigger buzz doesn’t seem to be working all that well. What do you guys think? Who is on your personal list? Who do you think MTV will have on their list? Speak on it.

The problem with being 28 is that I can remember MTV when it was great and played videos and didn’t have any “reality” shows. I’m officially old, I guess.

Okay I know 3 people for sure belong on the List, Lil Wanker(Best Faggot Alive!), Fishy Scent( Best Comedian in Rap) and Kanye(damn homie them new shades and kicks are HOT!), everybody else can be moved the fuck around. I say if Lupe Fiasco name doesn’t appear on the List then we all know it will be because New Yorkers are some spiteful wankers, since he is The Best Lyricist Alive. Period.

The nigger buzz would be working better if people actually believed that the album would ever come out (which i still doubt) I expect Wayne to be 1 again but don’t know if 50 is top 3. Soulja Boy should be there, but in the 8-10 area. Rick Ross shouldn’t be there, but dude sells records somehow so I could be wrong. Kayne gota be top 3. Jeezy is sorta hot since he got the Usher joint, but I don’t know. Game is luke warm, he aint been on mixtapes that much and “Big Dreams” and Pain (as hot as they are) don’t seem to be picking up steam, he’s still my fave rapper for the time being so I would still try to sneak him in there. Lupe should get a shoutout, but late on the list. And as disappointing as Snoop’s sales were, he’s still pretty much on big things.
The truth is, there isn’t even ten “hot” (as in popular) rappers I can name. Hip hop itself aint even all that “hot” right now.

4. Snoop Dogg
5. Jay-Z
6. Common
7. Rick Ross
8. Lupe Fiasco

Honorable mention to Chamillionaire. I stay optimistic that he will one day be at the top of this, and every other, hip-hop greatness list.

personally the god m.c. hov is the g.o.a.t in my opinion but this list isnt based on who’s the “greatest of all time” it’s based on who’s the hottest for the time being. and as he stated in the article, you dont have to be necessarily gifted lyrically or have the deepest subject matter at all. why do you think acts like shawty lo, rocko, or soulja boy (for example) been able to catch their hot streaks. I mean M.C. Hammer and Vanilla ice were consider “HOT” at one point. True you have your joe buddens or other cats that can actually spit but if you aren’t gimmicky or cranking out hits or controversial, you’re not benefiting the machine known as the industry there for you’re not considered “HOT”
