C-Murder’s re-trial for the 2002 murder of 16 year-old Steve Thomas was scheduled to begin next month, but has now been delayed until June 9. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Judge Martha Sassone agreed to a joint request from the defense and prosecutor David Wolff to delay jury selection, which was set to begin on February 11. On Tuesday (January 29) Wolff, Sassone and Ron Rakosky—the rapper’s attorney—sat down for a meeting in the judges chambers. During the meeting it was revealed that Rakosky uncovered names on the prosecution’s witness list that he was previously unaware were able to testify. How that relates to the case is unclear, as Sassone has barred both sides from discussing the case with the media. Wolff has also reportedly asked for more time to find a particular witness. The defense and prosecution later made the formal request to delay the trial in court, which Sassone granted. On February 11, the court will hear motions from the defense requesting both a change of venue and a dismissal of the indictment.
