In 2006 the Lancet study showed that there where about 600,000 Iraqi’s who died a violent death since the beginning of the war. Of them the break down goes like this: (According to the study, which used a well accepted methodology used in other places such as Kosavo & Congo)
“The families were very good at the cause of death, telling the reporters that over half (56%) were due to gunshots, with an eighth due each to car bombs(13%), air strikes (13%) and other ordinance (14%). Only 4% were due to unknown causes.”
Also:
“for the deaths that the victims families knew for sure who the perpetrator was, U.S. forces (or their “Coalition of the Willing” allies) were responsible for 56%. That is, we can be very confident that the Coalition had killed at least 180,000 Iraqis by the middle of 2006. Moreover, we have every reason to believe that the U.S. is responsible for its pro rata share (or more) of the unattributed deaths. That means that the U.S. and its allies may well have killed upwards of 330,000 Iraqis by the middle of 2006.”
And the final blow to ho G’s ignorant ass:
“And let’s be very clear here: car bombs, the one source that was most easy for victims’ families to identify, was responsible for 13% of the deaths, about 80,000 people, or about 2000 per month. This is horrendous, but it is far less than half of the confirmed American total, and less than a quarter of the probable American total.”

Hilarious post with good lines, I was laughing all the way through. It has a lot of truth to it as well. People want to pick apart the smallest and most insignificant things without getting to the roots of the problem, and it’s sick. I wish people would focus more on these things.
As for the war debate above me (not like it’ll change much), Iraq is a place we never should have entered. Pre-emptive warfare is a very idiotic idea. We should have stuck to Afghanistan where those directly responsible for 9/11 were located. It’s good that we killed Sadaam, Uday, and Qusay, but at what cost? Bin Laden was and still is a more dangerous target. This is shaping up to be a repeat of Vietnam if something isn’t done about it very soon. The question is: what needs to be done?

What I meant was that the leadership directing those Saudi Arabian hijackers was based in Afghanistan, and that’s why we should have stuck to it insead of taking a detour in Iraq, Hussein family deaths notwithstanding.
Our beef with the Middle East is directly connected to our undying support of Israel. Granted, I think that if the Palestinians had compromised with the 1947 partition plan that none of this would have happened (or at least on a smaller scale), but it doesn’t help that we continue to funnel Israel with weapons and protection. We should serve as a mediator between the two.
