• Saigon Single World Premiere

Friday Jul 13 4:04 PM CDT posted by xxl staff

I told y’all I’m the new blog king. Courtesy of Mr. Smith, the full No DJ version of Saigon’s single. It’s actually called “C’mon Baby” and it features Swizz Beatz and Just Blaze. Happy born day, Giddy!

P.S. For doz that slept: The new Wyclef single has also leaked (Scratch cover with him and T.I. coming sooner than you think). What a great day for hip-hop!

P.P.S. My 10th anniversary cover is Baby and Lil Wayne. I said it in my KRS post last weekend. Reading Is Fundamental. Word to Easy Mo Bee.

This song wont make Saigon any new fans. And the TI’s at Atlantic know it. Most Dj’s (who are worth a scratch) wont have any way to mix this into their sets, especially in clubs….until Hov’s verse, which totally defeats the purpose. I’m cool with it though, but I know the difference between a song that I dig and a hit. Sorry.

Some of you really don’t know Hip Hop, like you think you do. I’m tired of people thinking you have to put out a club record or have something gimmicky or catchy just to be noticed. When will y’all realize it ain’t about that. It’s about making respectable music. Now I’m not the biggest Saigon fan, but it’s been a while since a joint had my hype like that (as in a wild out joint to nod too). Although the song is OK with me. I was expecting better. But the song is far from wack. It’s not about buzz, record sales, or being number 1 on billboard. It’s about good music.

I think that the Saigon single is ok. It’s hard to live up to all the hype and anticipation after waiting on constant push-backs of the release date for this album. Based on this song and pain in my life, I dont think this will be the best album of all time as Saigon predicted. I have told so many friends about Saigon based on his mix tapes and bootlegs, because he does have the talent to be the best rapper alive. But being the best also comes with being able to put together classic/memorable hooks and on this track I can’t even understand what they are saying in the hook. It’s definitely not a classic. However, all the other rappers around are so horrible that Saigon will probably rise to the top if he can put together a decent album. His best song that could be rehashed for radio is Cold World.

this shit is ridiculous but lets be honest will it really have an impact on hip hop? saigon is claiming this is the best album in the last 20 years, and this song is nothing short of incredible but is it really gonna change anything? if this makes it into the billboard top 200 i’ll be very suprised, if this makes real rap come back i’ll be very suprised, this shit is amazing but i dont think the ringtone era is over because of saigon…
