jacob_picture.jpgAn attorney for Jacob "The Jeweler" Arabov, famed designer of custom jewelry to the stars, filed a motion in Detroit's US District Court on Friday (October 20) seeking to have his trial on money laundering charges moved to New York City. The Detroit Free Press reports that Arabov is concerned that his case will be hurt if he is tried alongside the alleged drug dealers who he stands accused of laundering money for. In June of 2006, Arabov was indicted and charged with money laundering for allegedly helping the "Black Mafia Family" organization, allegedly fronted by Detroit natives Demetrius and Terry Flenory, launder over $270 million in drug proceeds. Aside from the perceived prejudice he believes his co-defendants would bring to his case, Arabov also cited the heavy costs that would be incurred if he is required to defend himself in Detroit, rather than his hometown of New York, where he was arrested. Following his indictment, Arabov plead not guilty to the charges and was released on $100,000 bail.
