First off I am from New Orleans, and I have been keepin’ up with Cash money since the early 90′s (IE Pimp Daddy, Ms. T, U.N.L.V.) . I have watched Cash money records grow from a small street label to a nationally recognized label. Now as far as Lil Wayne, I have been listening to him since the first Hot Boys, Big Tymers, and second BG album and I have seen the evolution of Weezy’s style. One thing I can say is that Weezy has always had a bit of swagger on the mic. However, his New Orleans based style never used complex Rhymes (Cash money Artist including Weezy used simple ass rhymes) and his swagger was a a direct reflection of the NO street culture. From about the year 2002 unitll now, I have noticed a huge change in Weezy’s rhymes (word choice, slang, metaphors) and swagger. His style has evolved from a very simple New Olreans based style to a more complex style with a completly differenct swagger similar to East coast rappers such as Hov and Dipset. Ironically, out of all the many rappers from NO such as the NO limit artist and cash money artist, he is the only to have developed this sort of rhyme style (and rhyme for rhyme he wasn’t even the best known pure lyracist from the N.O.–Fiend is) For a while it was hard to me to put my finger on it, but now after hearing of Gilly’s role in Cash Money I can now put the elements together. There is no way Lil Wayne has stepped his game up from the level he was at without some major help. It is obvious that there was a significant change in Weezy’s style. Now as far how much biting was going on, I dunno. But I do believe that Wayne patterned his style and rhymes after Gilly the Kid. If you don’t believe me….just listen to all Weezy’s albums and appearances on CMR and you can notice the significant change.

Philadelphia born rapper Gillie Da Kid was arrested on Tuesday (Feb. 6), after authorities learned he was allegedly running two drug houses.

Gillie and five associates were arrested, after authorities received a tip and searched the houses on Passmore Street in Philadelphia.

Police confiscated 89 pounds of marijuana worth $404,000.

All five were charged with conspiracy and possessing narcotics with intent to deliver.

“They were supplying numerous drug dealers all over the city, not just in the Northeast,” Sgt. Robert Friel of Narcotics Field Unit 2 told the Philadelphia Daily News.

Police are also investigating another house in the area, where officers confiscated $6 million in cocaine in November.

Police watched the rapper for several hours and witnessed him receiving a delivery of marijuana.

Gillie and his associates were arrested when they attempted to leave in their luxury vehicles, which included a Lexus and Jaguar.

Gillie, born Nasir Fard, was a member of the rap group Major Figgas.

He was also an artist on Cash Money Records before a major falling out with the label’s head, Bryan “Baby” Williams and rap star Lil Wayne.
