Jay-Z Plans Concert on 10th Anniversary of Reasonable Doubt, Slams Makers of Cristál

jay_close.jpgDuring an appearance on Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show yesterday, Jay-Z announced that he will be hosting a special commemorative concert in honor of the 10th anniversary of the release of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.

The event will be held at New York City’s storied Radio City Music Hall and is scheduled for June 25th, 10 years to the day that the record hit stores. The Def Jam President/CEO will perform all of the songs from the classic disc and in his typically vague fashion about such matters, has hinted that “anything can happen” on the night of the performance.

Although critically acclaimed, Reasonable Doubt did not initially enjoy the immediate commercial success typical of the Brooklyn MC’s subsequent releases, but eventually earned a platinum certification after being reissued in 1999. It has since been hailed by many as one of the greatest rap albums of all time, and the best album in Jay’s catalogue.

In related news, the Def Jam CEO also took the opportunity to slam the makers of Louis Roderer Cristal Champagne for recent comments by their managing director, Frédéric Rouzaud. In an interview with The Economist magazine, the executive expressed his distaste for the loyal patronage of his company’s product by hip-hop artists and fans alike and described their penchant for the yellow bottles of bubbly as “unwanted attention.” Jay responded by declaring that “Cristal is over” and vowing to never drink the expensive champagne again.
