Busta Rhymes Debuts at #1 with The Big Bang

busta.jpgBusta Rhymes tops this week’s pop charts after moving just over 209,000 copies of his latest LP, The Big Bang. This release marks Busta’s seventh solo studio album and his first project since signing to legendary producer Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label in 2004. It’s also the first time a Busta album has ever held the top spot on Billboard’s Top 200. An air of controversy initially surrounded the album after the violent murder of Busta’s bodyguard, Israel Ramirez, at the video shoot for his smash single “Touch It,” Busta’s subsequent lack of cooperation with authorities in the investigation. The Big Bang has been hailed by some critics as Busta’s best work to date (CLICK HERE for XXLMAG.COM’s audio/visual retrospective of Busta’s career).

In other chart news, both Yung Joc and Ice Cube dropped several places after enjoying strong debuts last week. After their second week in stores newcomer Joc moved less than 70,000 units while the veteran Ice Cube clocked in at around 63,000.
