You know, I just think that nothing is learned from this kind of tragedy when all it amounts to is Proof being lionized and his victim being demonized… As fans of his music, he have the opportunity to make something out of this, and learn something from Proof’s life and music, but only if we don’t kid ourselves about what really happened, and how stupid it was to have to have it all end this way. It’s creating a mythical idea of Proof’s death out of what really is a huge dissapointment. No one will ever really know what led to it all, except for the fact that it was preventable, and that’s why violence like this is just bullshit all around. It’s not like someone just pulled a drive by on him like Biggie or even Pac(who had supposedly stomped his suspected killer the very night before, so can we really call that person a no good reason havin’ hater?)…

You just can’t say that Proof was minding his own business and got popped by someone who just wanted to take him down.

Maybe sometimes we have to accept truths about our heroes even when they are upsetting… That’s keepin’ it real. And the more I think about it, I think the way you live is more important than what you say on the mic. As it turns out, a lot of Proof’s sentiment in his lyrics was really just bullshit. At the end of his life, he rapped about wanting to be forgiven, tryin’ to change his life, make things right with his kids, and not end in a blaze of bullshit glory. And as it turns out, that just wasn’t real, or he would have at least walked away after he had beat the fuck out of that man, and not decided to blast him in the face on top of it.

I suppose, at the end of the day, that both Pac and Proof told us in their lyrics that they knew they would be deserving of this kind of death if all the things they ever did would catch up to them… The men themselves wouldn’t want us to look to them as role models in life, or innocent victims. Just, for once, listen to their LYRICS, and don’t be “the dumb who are mostly intrigued by the drum”(-Masta Killah).

It would seem that some of you are quite passionate about justice, and defending honor. But if you truly don’t give a fuck, then how can you expect anything more out of this world than chaos in return if that’s all you give? It’s hypocritical to not accept the fact that someone else may take the measure to defend themselves or perhaps even their “honor” in the same way you do and have it come back to hurt you.

wow lamar, very nice passage, for those without the common sense or morals to think that anybody deserves to die is retarded. why are people so ignorant, those who just talk up a storm trying to create an image of their idols without using common sense or facts. i mean i dont know the dude (proof)but shooting a man over a game of pool and thats honorable?
