50 Cent Named Songwriter of the Year at ASCAP Pop Music Awards

50.jpg50 Cent picked up the award for Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Beverly Hills on Monday (May 22). The G-Unit front man earned the nod for his hit singles “Candy Shop,” “Disco Inferno” and “Just a Lil Bit,” as well as his contributions to “Hate It or Love It” and “How We Do” from The Game’s multi-platinum debut album The Documentary. Although he couldn’t make the ceremony, as he is currently in Cannes promoting his upcoming film Home of The Brave, 50 addressed the crowd of over 700 songwriters and industry leaders via a videotaped message: “I want to tell you that I use you for energy. I listen to the material that you create. It helps me move to the next level. It inspires me to write even more exciting material.” This is the second win for 50 in three years, after being honored with the same award in 2004 for his monster singles “21 Questions” and “In Da Club.”
