LAPD Pays Biggie’s Family $1.1 Million for Negligence
The family of the Notorious B.I.G. today (March 30) was awarded $1.1 million for police negligence in a wrongful death trial that the family brought against the city of Los Angeles last year. In July 2005, a judge declared a mistrial in the family’s civil suit after it became clear that a detective had withheld crucial evidence. The resulting payout will cover the family’s legal costs, which will allow them to bring a new suit against the LAPD later this year in their attempt to prove that the city colluded in the murder of Biggie Smalls in 1997.
