2016: One day after chaos erupted during a shooting at a T.I. concert in New York City's Irving Plaza (May 25), Troy Ave gets arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and charged with second-degree attempted murder.

The Brooklyn rapper had been attending the show with his friend and bodyguard Ronald "Banga" McPhatter when shots were fired. In surveillance footage of the incident, which ultimately left McPhatter dead and three more people injured, the rapper can be seen firing off at least one gunshot. Troy himself was shot in the leg.

As the footage made its way out into the public eye, Troy was arrested for reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm while being charged with attempted murder that same day. Troy Ave was shortly thereafter sent to Rikers Island.

On June 22, Troy pled not guilty to attempted murder, claiming that he was only firing the weapon, which he said he took from the actual shooter, to defend himself. Troy Ave's mother secured a $500,000 bond to bail the rapper out of Rikers on July 11.

Since being arrested, Troy Ave has been banned from performing in his native New York City and leaving the U.S. to tour. He hasn't let these things stop him from putting out music, though. In the time following his arrest, Troy has put out several projects, including Free Troy Ave, Dope Boy Troy, White Christmas 4Nupac and more.

On May 14, 2018 Troy seemingly had his ankle bracelet, one he'd been wearing since he was released from Rikers nearly two years ago, removed. He celebrated the occasion with an Instagram post.

"Said I was innocent since day 1 and it’s still Free Me Until They Free Me #FreeTroyAve," he wrote in a caption for the post, which includes a video of him having the ankle brace taken off. "Next Court Date: 6/28 Shout Out 2 everybody that believed and still believes in and supports me ❤️x💯GOD making me stronger👏 it’s #WeAgainstTheWorld !!!
