Today In Hip-Hop: Bun B Celebrates His 40th Birthday

On this day, March 19th, in hip-hop history…

1973: Bun B celebrates his 40th birthday today. The Houston emcee is best known for his work with fellow Port Arthur, TX native Pimp C as a part of the duo the Underground Kingz. Beginning with 1988’s The Southern Way EP, UGK enjoyed a 20-year career on Jive Records, during which the pair released six full length albums. UGK released its final album UGK 4 Life in 2009 following Pimp C’s death in 2007 from an overdose of promethazine and codeine.

Bun B has also three solo albums, with his most recent effort Trill O.G. earning a five mic review from The Source. He is planning to release a fourth solo project, Trill 4 Life, later in 2013. Bun also recently began teaching a Religion and Hip-Hop course at Rice University in 2010.
