What’s Gonna Happen to Game?

I like Game. I didn’t start off as the biggest fan of the West Coast rapper, in fact, I used to hate on him, big time. All the name dropping, and the beef with 50 really turned me off (II). Constantly covering him in the news, there was a point where every day my man was saying something contradictory. But then I met him and I must say, he’s up there with one of the nicest MCs. He’s funny, relatable, charismatic and he’s definitely got star power. After we chopped it up a lil bit, did a lil one two thing with the push ups (watch here if you missed it), I started to really like dude (II). Then he dropped his Red Room mixtape with us, and I had a handful of joints on repeat. Serious repeat. “It Must Be Me” is a certified banger for real.

Anyway with Chuck Taylor’s new double disc mixtape, Purp & Patron dropping earlier this week I can’t help but wonder what’s gonna happen to dude? The R.E.D. Album has been pushed back so many times now that it’s beginning to look bleak. It’s no secret why he keeps on putting out these tapes, but is his label listening? Game still has an insanely loyal fanbase. I mean when we asked what album readers were most anticipating for 2011, the man won hands down, beating out Dr. Dre, Jay-Z & Kanye, Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Drake and Lupe Fiasco. Wow.

Is that enough information for Interscope or Aftermath to put out his album or does somebody have to stage a protest a la Mr. Fiasco?

What do ya’ll think? Is the game over yet? What more does he have to do to get a release date? —Jesse Gissen

    Hell nah it ain’t game over. His mixtapes have been getting great reviews while keeping his name out there. If he’s really back in the lab with Dr. Dre, all he needs is that radio single with Dre and he’ll be aight.

      I beg ta differ…I mean even if his mixtapes have been getting great reviews nobodys really checking for em…Isn’t this like 10th mixtape since the R.E.D. Album???? And he’s already ran like three singles through the circuits and they’ve went nowhere…I hate ta say it but the dudes ran his course in rap and well….It’s a wrap…..

    Game’s just not that big of a deal anymore – his guest features & producers are more of a selling point then his own music.

    if it is over its kind of a shame i actually thought that shake song might be more popular and game always sells pretty well if game announced his shit was droppin next week out the blue bet hed still do a 100k plus first week the shit would go gold too dude gotta lotta fans it seems like the tis are clampin down on street rap bcuz jeezy and jada were supposed to drop last year and their albums did pretty well…
    shit doesnt make sense really…

    He cant write hooks. Interscope wont put him out till he has something catchy. same with lupe . Forcing it is not gona help. If the cd doesnt have strong catchy hooky songs it will sell like a mixtape -zip

    I feel like Game is hustlin right now to buil up a buzz. His last mixtape was pretty weak. Shake was wack. The only tracks I liked he dropped last year were Gangs in New York with Jada and Jim Jones and Higher with Jay Electronica. The new mixtape sounds promising though. I’m gonna check it out tonight. I like the song with Wayne and I’m curious about the track with KRS, Doug E Fresh and Big Daddy Kane. The song with Wiz just sounds forced though.

    I’m a Game fan though, got all 3 albums, and I think he can come back. I just feel like hes been a bit desperate though tryin to throw shit at a wall and see what sticks and hes got nothin so far hence the delay on the RED album. I feel like I was just choppin it up on here with Don about how Game and Jeezy are in similar situations….

        Yeah homey Nas got it even rougher cause most of his fans are older now like myself…. I mean Nas is my favorite rapper so I’ll always support dude, but dudes got ALOT of critics these days and popular belief is that he picks wack beats.

        See I think Jeezy and Game wanna come back with some hits but maybe Nas is past that point in his career.( Although he’s in debt now big time, so who knows what he’s thinking?) The last 2 albums kinda seemed like he was making music that he wanted to make not to appeal to the same fanbases of Game/Jeezy etc. I mean Distant Relatives was great, but came out of left field. Nobody else was doin records with reggae artists at the time, especially not a full album.

        I wanna see dude come back with some boom bap shit ….

    game jus finding his feet again. i feel like blud kinda running outta material he feels deep about to shine on eg, 50/unit beef, no dre, his kids, compton etc – so he rappin same shit or irrelevant shit 4while. dropped p&p tape some tracks hot some worth skipping but i noticed his flow is broadening. needs 2 stop immitating other rappers voices on WHOLE VERSES & EVEN WHOLE TRACKS. irritating. still love that nigga tho he rise up again .

    On point of blog, Gane is gonna do fine, when his album does eventually drop it will do OK numbers nothing amazing.

    Nas last album was dope (Distant Relatives), it was my fave of 2010.

    You know how I rant about character being a huge part of being a top teir star in the hip-hop world well it is actually the whole pie. Game’s character was never fully developed. He came out surrounded by too much controversy and was placed in g-unit by Jimmy to break him as a artist to the mainstream. His entire career has directly related to how folks veiw him in lew of his various beefs. Now that all of his beef partners have moved on he is left to do battle with Ras Kas which is not as interesting to the idiot mass as his TMZ worthy fueds he had with 50 and company.

    Then there is the fact he is a solid rapper that spitz very generic tales of street life. His shit is always perofrmed well,record well and most of the lyrics are on point but he doesn’t do much to connect with the audience unless you are sitting in your red lolo with red chucks on getting head from a redbone who is rocking a red thong. He has a definite sound of his own but its hard to connect with the g forever even though I am rich shit, hell ask his old nemsis 50 he can’t get nothing to stick right now either only his mad dog g-unit stans(see dead enders) feel his new stuff for reals.

    Game isn’t done yet, but he is VERY close. He’s a great MC, and he’s just a very smart person who’s taken for granted. I just feel like he thinks he’s made it already and doesn’t have to stay in the news, promote, or really even try that hard anymore. He can spit hard, but he doesn’t, and that’s why his fans have a hard time defending him. At the same time, it’s painfully obvious that he’s spending a lot more time looking for the next gimmick that will give him mainstream superstar status.

    He just needs to play up his life outside of rap, focus on his music at this point, and do something original and different from what he’s done before. Everything else will follow. But RED is definitely the last chance Game will ever have.
