“Made in The USA”

Those four words once meant a lot once. They meant a lot to my grandpa who lived thru the Depression and WWII. Made in the USA meant a lot to my father and step-father (I hate that word) both of whom are union members. These words were once what my grandma and mom would look for in the back of clothing labels before they bought them for me and my sisters. Polo and Chaps were bought in my house not because I had ever heard of the low-life’s but because it said Made in the U.S. of A.

During the Bush era I was always dumbfounded by the W supporter’s window stickers and God Bless America bumper stickers on Japanese and German cars. I mean these folks listen to endless “God Save Our Country” and “Greatest Country In The World” blah blah blah; right wing conservative malarkey every day yet they don’t drive American. Shame on you! Their “God Bless America” tee’s come from the local Wal Mart and were made in China, India, South Asia or another country of yellow or brown people. They drive their foreign cars to coffee shops to buy Kenyan coffee (lol at them hating a half-Kenyan Prez). If these folk really meant the f*ckery they preach every day why would they not start buying only American goods?

I have never heard Mr. Hannity, Mr. Beck, Mr. O’Reilly go on a “you better only buy American” tirade. Actually I have when they talk about everyone should like country music or drilling for oil off the gulf coast. You know the impossible sh*t! These three men and Rush Limbaugh seem to have forgotten the most basic and American thing you can do is buy an American car and clothing as well as products made in the USA. Yeah with all that talk of Obama being a Hitler-like socialist (please note Hitler was a fascist not a socialist) destroying the very fabric of this God-ordained empire (bullsh*t by the way), they never not once have said to buy a damn Buick or Caddy or Chevy or Dodge or Ford or Saturn or any other company that may bring a job to Michigan. They gladly take Wal Mart money for ads and never call out the unfair job practices that crush American workers moral and grossly underpays them.

When will the right wingers get the fact you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say “God Bless Our USA” and not support her workers. You cannot love a country and not buy products in that country produced buy her citizens. If you do anything other than that, you are like the distinguished Joe Wilson said “A Lie” and un-American.

I propose now that Ford’s and Chevy’s get decent mileage for the next 10 years and we only buy American cars. We pay an extra buck or so and buy only American products including clothing, TVs (GE ya’ll), furniture (no Ikea), etc. I also say we should put heavy tariffs on buying any foreign car or bikes (we did this in the early 80s to save Harley Davidson). We should also only buy locally grown food and alcohol that is produced here. Not only will we improve quality and safety (no more lead paint on your kid’s toys) we will restore American jobs and rebuild dead cities like Detroit, Watts, and Flint. Is this sh*t making sense? Cause it’s basic!

Until a few years ago, Warren Buffet our beloved American billionaire had only invested in American companies. If American companies made him 64-billi, imagine what supporting America could bring by way of jobs and industry to us, the common folk and our communities. Keep wearing New Era’s Hip Hop, the country needs us.

In closing I would just like to say right wing Hannity-loving Glenn Back-supporting, O’Reilly-agreeing, Limbaugh-lusting patriots are fulla sh*t or they would work harder at telling their listeners to start supporting American companies and workers. If they don’t, they can suck two tea bags if ya get the point. I gotta go now, my Chevy truck is calling! God Bless America…with these idiots she’ll need him!

Oct. 2. Capitalism: A Love Story, the new movie by Michael Moore. I know ya’ll going to see the new Tyler Perry flick but check this one out too. They both were made in the USA!

  • DV8

good read. Im with you for the most part except for the fact that we (U.S.A.) make shitty electronics. One thing that bothers me the most is just thinking how things would be if we where allowed to drill for oil off our own coast. From what I understand New Orleans and other coastal cities would reap great financial benefits. SMH.

    • Brass Tacks

The benefits would only support the crooked politician not state of Louisiana itself…

Intelligent and serious drop Killa Mike, its the same in the UK as well.

l’m reminded of a Sarah Silverman skit, in which she makes a joke about how the jews that survived the holcaust are all hypocrites cos they all now drive cars from BMW and Mercedes who played a big part in hitlers germany.

  • http://Pierzy11@gmail.com Pierzy

As manufacturing jobs left our cities, so too did some of our spirit. Very few people in this country MAKE anything anymore (myself included).

I’m stoked to see Moore’s film and I’m one of the few that will take a pass on Mr. Perry’s work. No hate, I wish him all the best…it’s just not for me.

    • Hanch

What Up P? Normally I agree with alot of what you have to say but I cant support Michael Moore on this Movie where he is just bashing Capitalism. Do we really not want a Free Market Enterprise anymore? Do we really want to be Russia or China? Look at all the Millionaires Capitalism has made and yes if corrupted it does breed Greed but at least your allowed to make and run your business the way you want to instead of the way the government wants you to. Just ask GM about that one. You see Ford is still doing ok right.

      • AvengerXL

First off micheal moore is bashing unchecked capitalism that allows hyper greed and incourages by any means necessary tactics of getting rich. Capitalism is a good system to establish a society and it must be maintained by the citizens of said society as well as the business owners. Unchecked capitlism pretty much creates various boom and bust cycles and the middle and lower middle class suffer the most in the bust cycles. While the rich regroup and the extreme poor stay poor. We will never go toward the totalitarion states of Russia or china (who pose as communist governments when they are not). A. Because that would mess up all the rich folks money and they ain’t having that.
        B. Communism really can’t work in the human species it will always devolve into dictatorships calling themselves communist in the worlds current state. Human nature is greedy and envy filled folks

        • $ykotic/Don McCaine

The irony of this drop is, although we support capitalism, and want to “buy American”, we as a nation have accrued so much DEBT, that all this $ is China’s & Japan’s.

          Bing Ameros.

        • Hanch

Im pretty sure in my post I said that Capitalism does breed Greed, but it is still by far the best.

        • $ykotic/Don McCaine

          You ain’t lying Hanch.

        • AvengerXL

Yes it is the best because it plays into our nature as greedy little consumertrons. All other systems appeal to ideals that are not the bedrock of humanity greed is. America is a mixed market economy however. It isn’t just capitalist. It is hard to just do one thing and operate a fuctional society. Once again I agree capitalism is the best though because it would require waaaaay too many factors to pull off anything else and our current system is powered by our own inate greed which is a fuel that can’t be depleted viv la greed.

Gordon Geico is a prophet for profit in capitalism.

  • Moving Sideways

I try to do what I can to buy (especially manufactured goods) from American factories. However, when it comes to automobiles, you really have no idea where that shit is being produced. GM plants can be in Mexico or the new Kia factory just outside Columbus, GA. Globalization is a motherfucker so you have to be careful.

  • DetroitDraper

I would love to be patriotic and buy American etc. but like someone above stated alot of American products are of greatly lesser quality with a higher price tag. Im from Detroit but I’m going for Value(quality/price)

    MAYN HOL’UP

  • Brahsef

It’s such a globalized economy now, that buying American compared to foreign doesn’t matter as much as just plain buying anything to stimulate the economy. As a country we’re leaving the manufacturing era and entering a service/technologically based economy. It’s hard to compete against another country who can make the same product but cheaper. Not saying it’s impossible, but we’re oversaturating our market right now.

  • Brahsef

And I personally don’t know how anyone can want to watch a Michael Moore film. I agree with him on almost all his points, but he’s a douche who always thinks he’s fucking right. He’s just as bad as Bill O’Reily to me.

    • Around and Around

I’m willing to bet you’ve actually never seen a Moore film. That shit is always comedy.

“I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch this drive”

“Is there any terrorist target around here?”

“Tappahannock Woman: [Gesturing towards the restaurant behind her] We have a big spaghetti supper in here.”
      ——-

Anyways Mike I feel you, but lets be honest the quality of American produced goods has really gone down hill. For years american auto makers relied on the american “base” while mainly Japanese makers really worked to improve their cars…now they’re just feeling the effects of their pathetic R&D and Product Development. I work hard for my shit, and why buy inferior products? This is the problem for many.

  • AvengerXL

Globalization isn’t a villan because when countries depend on each other for money they try to kill each other less with nuclear weapons. The tuff talk remains but at the end of the day nobody wants to mess up the money but extremists

The only way america will compete in the manufacturing economy again is when we figure out a way to make machines manufacture stuff here and hire workers to operate and service said machines. right now we can’t compete with low cost manufacture on labor intense production and I think this is a good time to establish a more educated soceity. Geared toward technology and we also need to restablish our twon square model and do away with the urban sprawl/shopping mall model of the 80′s i.e. giving some clout back to small business. Buying American is not a silver bullet but it will keep the global competition honest with the need of tariffs.

  • fatDAN

O.K., when you see people on t.v. local or national woofing about buying American, don’t trust them. Reason #1: anyone with money to pay for labor will not I repeat WILL NOT pay the extra money for a company with a zero percent illegal worker rate. Who cuts their yards, installs sprinklers, installs fences, builds that add-on room, paints that add-on, raises their kids, lays sod, pours concrete, frame a house, I could go on for days fuckaz. The first step in “buying American” has to be IN THE HOME. The people writing these labor laws are all guilty of employing illegal workers in some way or another. When people say these illegals are doing the jobs Americans don’t want it is total bullshit. They just accept less pay, work more hours, and don’t ask for health insurance. Who cuts your yard Killa? No disrespect. Illegal status equals lower pay wages. This is written from over 10 years experience in the landscape industry here in Texas.

  • BIGNAT

you hit a big nail on the head with the job thing mike. that is big part of why america is messed up. in order for our society to work we need low middle and high class. now if most of the lower jobs are out sourced to other countires. where are all those people supposed to work. it’s to the point my neice can’t get a job because most adults are working in places. that younger people would be working at to make there start in the work world. the rich just wanna get richer and i really don’t blame them. if it’s going cost them 10 bucks to make a pair of jordans and have it shipped here. you going pay 120 or more they making a killing.

  • Brooklyn

a lot of it has to do with quality and price. more often than not, foreign goods have better quality and cost less or the same as american products. furthermore, when it comes to cars especially, people prefer foreign cars because they’re smaller and thus cost less money to fill up as far as gas is concerned. american cars are built with the “bigger is better” philosophy, which makes them majestic, but expensive. japan and europe makes smaller cars that can go faster than american cars and that run on less gas. i have an uncle who refused to drive a car if it wasn’t a pimpmobile cadillac coup de ville or brougham. all throughout my childhood i remember him pushing them big ass whips, but even he had to give them shits up because gas was getting to expensive, he now drives a toyota.

there’s also a historical aspect, this country was founded by europeans, and industy was discouraged by the british government. when america was a colony, it had to get all it’s goods from europe and asia. the upper classes in this country thus began to feel that europeans goods were superior because they came from “home” as opposed to the domestic made goods because they were local. you ask an american what’s a better car brand, maserati or cadillac, and they’ll tell you maserati.

  • GIBZ

u aint lyin Bigga!!! We need to start doing our part. I financed a new chevy the other day, but that is only cus they have such good deals now, and they are makin quality cars. I think the reason so many ppl went foreign was cus they made things better. They were puttin out cars that got good milage, and we were puttin out hemi’s and shit. We finally smartened up a little but its way over due. We need to buy american but we also need to do more to better our world, not just our country. Good drop though MB!!!

    J7M keep ya head homie!

I don’t even feel good for pulling that card. I feel like I just grounded one of my kids for screwing up.

That dude was riding hard, you can tell he wants to be in Aubrey’s space, acting like being Kurtis Blow’s godson means he has the same DNA as the man.

I was building with Grands a little while ago. He’s good.

      PEACE GIBZ

Funny how you only want to bash so called right wingers when Democrats and so called left wingers are JUST AS BAD AND JUST AS CRIMINAL. The people in our government are tantamount to gangsters, nothing more, nothing less. And the people who want an expansion of this gangsterism are servants of power who will benefit from it at the expense of their fellow citizens and countrymen.

Also, Michael Moore gets capitalism confused with corporatism. Every attack on capitalism is an attack on corporatism from him and others like him. Do yourself a favor and look both up. True capitalism is great, unfortunately we haven’t had that for many, many years (almost a full century actually). The more invasive government gets, the less freedom for society, regardless of which Democrat or Republican is at the controls.

P.S. The terms left, right, conservative, and liberal are outdated and shouldn’t have so much weight thrown behind them since the meaning is so distorted it’s hard to discern it half the time. It should just be about issues, not which gang you ride for.

Its also very easy to say buy American made only. But when it comes to $, usually the imported shit from abroad is helluva cheaper, therefore most kats usually pick the cheapest!

I with you on this one Mike. Too many people have forgotten how important it is that we support our manufacturing base in this country. It has shrunk dramatically over the last 2 decades which has made us more vunerable than ever as a country. Everyone buys into the bullshit their fed that its ok that the manufacturing jobs are going away because we are all going to work in information technology and service jobs, lol.

Not only do manufacturing jobs stregnth the middle class, but it also enables us as country to be able to stand on our own if necessary. The reason China and so many countries are able to dictate to us on policy now is because we don’t have a self sustaining economy anymore. Yes, it is important to be part of the global economy, but it is also important to be able to stand on your own two feet, which we can’t anymore. And truly the only people that are profiting off the “global economy” are the people that already have all the money to begin with.
Yes we save a dollar here and there by buying the cheap shit from China, but we have already seen that most of their products are unsafe and take jobs from the middle and working class of this country, while at the same time creating the circumstances where millions of workers overseas are forced into near slave labor conditions.
I grew up in a family where my Grandfather worked in the Union and so did my father and they had a pride in that they built American products. The bottom line is that as we let our manufacturing base shrink, because people don’t care whether or not we buy American, the plight of the middle and working class poor will also continue to get worse. I’m a firm believer in getting an education and pursuing your goals, but when studies continue to show that there are not jobs for over 70% of college students upon graduation, and the number of graduates will continue to far outpace the creation of “information tech jobs” and “service jobs”, I just hope it will not be to late for people to finally realize that it is the manufacturing industry along with agriculture that is the backbone of our economy when it is truly successful

  • http://www.myspace.com/emcdlthemusicprofile EmCDL

Great drop Killa! Although I’m also big on buying American-made equipment, like most said on these comments already, most foreign goods are made at better quality and price. But at the same time, if we were to start (or continue, for some of you who still buy straight-up American made stuff), or economy would be so much better off than it is now thats for sure.

  • 11KAP

america is bought off and paid for by the few billionaires who took our hard-earned money to those sweatshops overseas. shit ain’t fair, son.
