It is obvious the government is trying to stop hip hop and stop african american from having a powerful black leader. we all know everybody wants to be black but no one wants to be black.the government is crooked and we all know america is crooked.starting back with the slave trade and to current events now. but think about this, african americans have no resources living in america but are voices and as hip hop showed for years our voices are the most influencial around the world just looked at the rise of hip hop across the world.in the early 90′s the government wanted to bann hip hop, they could not do it,so what they do now is exploit hip hop negativity and place black people against eachother.and now the biggest hit that hip hop has taken is bootlegging. there has always been bootlegging but never to the extent it is now.and the market the bootlegging has hit the most is hip hop.so is the government against hip hop?hell yea!do the government think were stupid?hell yea.but it is a two way street,we feed into the bullshit the government displays.

real talk jay .. of course many believe there was a plot to dilute the music . The whole Harvard report and the majors sweeping up all the indy soul labels in the 70s which was followed by a watering down of the music (disco ) . Whether pac and biggie would be the leaders many folks predicted they would be is very questionable . they need to post the actualy interview because im sure theres more to it .. . good post jay .. peace

Alicia Keys just said what alot people think everyday. At some point everybody in this country has thought the government to be suspect in some sort of tragedy…EVERYBODY. Whether it was the Civil Rights movement, 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, or Biggie and Pac. People said Kanye was crazy for his comment, ” Bush doesn’t like black people.” Pretty sure alot of people were thinking the same thing, he just said it. U just have to pick ur places to make comments like that. This will blow over. Somebody will say something really crazy in the near future and all will be forgotten. By the way, who remembers Don Imus?

  • kingequality

sounds like miss keys is doing her homework. He forgot to mentioned the gov got agents in the bloods and crips to most of these og’s are fed imformants we been fucking up for years it used to be a code how we did thangs nowadays rappers are just snitching on record come on its songs that came out giving you step by step directions how to make crack black movies showing stash spots and ect. They been took the music under control and you cant just blame the gov some of the blame got to go to the rats that took the cheese in the first place. whats really entertaining bout niggas killing niggas we got to blame ourselves for not demanding better and putting up with the bullshit for this long

This guy has great logic in his points and a lot of his information is correct but, Alicia Keys does not quality for being “extra suspicious”!
In fact, Mrs. Keys is absolutely right! History shows us that if, there was another Jesus or Messiah coming he is going to be a colored man and the government has this “top secret” information; the original Torah & Bible. The Holy Qur’an states this as well. Hip-Hop has mass appeal and has the key to reach the masses of people wither you have a religion or not. Spoken word laid the foundation of Hip-Hop, using a unique drum pattern that would put every individual in tune on the same frequency provoking change in your state mind. Allowing you to dream or in-vision something better so, if your not naive to this truth and see the real logic of why the government would have a master plan to take control of the masses thru music to accurately prevent a guided soul and leader of the “new school” like a Tupac into feud with another famous colored rapper. Igniting a costal war stunting the growth of another colored leader! What other rapper in Hip-Hop do you know that spoke up against poverty, lifted up our women and warned us to make a change b/c rappers after him will not care but rather care more about making money instead of making change! Now look at the rap game, today rappers are professing the total opposite of what Tupac stood for. What does this all mean? Great fear has been placed on any potential leader who’s natural desire is to lead us too justice and equality(Thank GOD for Obama well, for now at least in hopes that he will not become a buffer). Now that is not extra suspicious but in fact that is “extra real” and “extra logic”, Mrs. Keys is just awoke and not sleep with a pacifier in their mouth like the majority of regular humans in the world who do what their told.I support Alicia Keys completely and I choose to stay WOKE and READY! Ask yourself do you know what time it is? No need for a clock, go find that answer!

    Respectfully,

“SMH at anyone who thinks two rappers were going to save music/entire race of people.”

I agree, and I’ve always said rappers are burdened with unfair, unrealistic expectations of becoming political leaders..

BUT to be fair, Alicia Keys didn’t really say that. For her theory to be true, you don’t need Pac or Biggie to actually become the next great leader, you just need the government to THINK they might become that.

  • What’z Crackin

Good for Alicia Keys for expressing her political opinion. Shame on her to say that shit. still reserving judgment till I actually see the Piece but some of these celebs are just stupid sometimes like you put a microphone in somebody’s face and these retards will say anything. Neither tupac or big were going to be black activist and save blacks from poverty and step up to be great black leaders. Them niggas were to busy doing drugs, fucking bitches, and talking shit about each other. great artist? yes great black leaders? fuck no

    k, i know she’s hot, but c’mon now.

one, you have a halfway-decent point about past U.S. government activity, but you pretty much glossed over the fact that certain groups during the time were extremely radical compared to an MLK type.

two, you’re really reaching in connecting it to this. Keys’s comment just sounds to me like another lame attempt to deflect blame for problems within the black community. not that the government can’t help to address some of those problems more but paranoid comments like these really aren’t helpful. it perpetuates this victim mentality where all blacks’ current problems are white-created and therefore they aren’t responsible for them.

at least the “corporations exploited hip hop” argument makes somewhat more sense, but even there it seems like some people use it to absolve the rappers themselves of responsibility for promoting a certain image.

    Reply to
    What’z cracking:

You sound ignorant! Being the definition of ignorance that is. Case in point. Malcolm X at age 25 was a pimp and a drug dealer kind of how you painted Tupac to be in fact, Pac was more! To Biggie I assure u this does not apply but when Tupac was murdered at 25, he was the voice of the people living in poverty speaking against oppression and admittedly profess that he was not perfect but, still stood for truth and justice. I hope you are not a person of color b/c then I can understand your comment but if, you are Kill yourself! You need to be reborn and resurrected.

“one, you have a halfway-decent point about past U.S. government activity, but you pretty much glossed over the fact that certain groups during the time were extremely radical compared to an MLK type.”

Nah, actually I specifically mentioned that MLK was less militant than other targets, and that’s exactly my point about the government’s capacity for irrational paranoid behavior. They were unable to see any difference between MLK and George Jackson.

(It’s also easy to forget how radical MLK himself was widely perceived to be at that time, by many other than the FBI)

  • http://www.illdoctrine.com Jay Smooth

Also very important to be clear on this: the radical nature of some militant groups in no way justified the straight-up criminal actions of the FBI and police authorities during COINTELPRO. when it comes to judging something like the murder of Fred Hampton, it’s really neither here nor there.

  • dsread

NOw because the Government used Conintelpro once does not mean it’s still going on the problem with a conspiracy theory believer is it creates a “gnostic” mentality of an elite who has this secret information who are above the peons who don’t. Also reading several books on The Black Panthers doesn’t make you an expert. This is just another case of celebrity run amok.

  • escobar9300

Man her comments are absolutley paranoia in its greatest state. Everybody thinks everyone is out to get the black man. Its not even like that man, its 2008 now, wake up and smell the fuckin blunt smoke. It was a beef between two dudes that got way too heated for either man to possibly stop it. Gangsta rap wasnt then and isnt now a tool for a government agency to ultimatly have rappers like Pac and Big dead. It was a beef that should have never got to the levels that it reached, and once it got too far it was impossible to stop the domino effect that was already starting. Pac and biggie were victims of their lifestyle and its a shame that two of the most amazing artists that ever lived had to die for use to learn that lesson.

  • Jules

Great points Jay, and I agree with you…but I agree with what some other people said too.

Yes, Alicia Keys may be right for having the having the opinion she does based on previous actions by the United States government, but I’d bet that there’s no way she could rattle off the same arguement you used to justify her standpoint and that’s part of the problem with celebrities making political statements:

If you can’t back up your opinion with political fact or (as is often the case) you can and you’re pretty sure the magazine you’re being interviewed by is only going to publish the part of your spiel that makes you look crazy, don’t say anything at all.

This is just another example of black people being overyly suspicious…the government is just trying to control what people do in their country which is perfectly normal…u dont think theres tons of fucked up shit that governments do to try and control white people in africa????????? america is and always will be owned and run by white people, its just decided to allow, like a lot of other countries, a certain amount of black presence which it keeps under control. how u gone have a country runnin smoothe when loads of black people start rioting every time a drug dealer is shot by the cops “cuz he black”

  • gerald n. the birdman

THE GOVERNMENT CREATED B.E.T. TO DESTROY THE BLACK COMMUNITY!!!!!!!

  • HNIC

Instead of everyone looking outwardly to find the next “great black leader”, we should begin the search inwardly. Why look for that man or woman, when you can be or become that leader that we all so desperately need? Why can’t we raise our children by example & instill in them the type of leadership qualities that were displayed by past greats; like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?

Even if the government does attempt to infiltrate & destroy us for becoming their worst nightmare, a nation of strong, intelligent, forward thinking human beings that continuously overcome the obstacles that they’ve placed in front of us by educating ourselves & others, then they will never be able to succeed in that mission, because short of a 2nd Holocaust, we will continue to multiply. The primary rule of war is Divide & Conquer. If we all had the same unified mentality, we would be unstoppable.

We have to expand our collective way of thinking beyond that of current trends & futile materialistic nonsense. You can’t take it with you, my brothers & sisters. When you leave this world, none of the material things will matter. It’s your legacy that will live on within your kids & your kids’ kids. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of just existing… I want to be GREAT, while I’m still here! I’m not saying that everyone is inherently good or evil. What I am saying is that we all make the choice daily on how we live our respective lives. We have to start being accountable for the person that we choose to become & responsible for the lives of our children. For the ones that choose to do otherwise, they will eventually defeat themselves.

To paraphrase Jigga; “ There’s my food for thought. Now, you do the dishes.”

  • HNIC

Even if they did try to recreate another Holocaust, so to speak, I’m sure that we would eventually adapt & evolve to the point that they’d realize how self-defeating that process is. Meaning that the same people that were previously persecuted now rule much of the free world. Think about it or pontificate, or what have you. Or simply, do what you do.

Ms.Keys might not have everything correct as for as her facts, but her statement is true in many areas and I feel what she is saying. But who has all the facts or can prove the facts when it comes to the government and what there real mission is concerning black people in general. We will never know what Pac or Biggie might have done or become because they created a situation that left both those brothers dead so nobody will know. How long will it take before we realize that they not only do the dirty work but most times they get someone else to do it so there hands look clean on the surface.I in no way find Ms.Keys crazy for her statement, I think we are crazy for passing judgement without studying the facts. Man if we only look around us we see it everyday where we live. The schools, hospitals, houses, projects, food and water is the worst compared to where they live, you think that is just an coincident. When will we understand that there future depends on how blind they can keep us.They are not looking to kill the Messiah or Mahdi, they know he is here and that their time is limited for ruling this planet.Folks we dealing with some wicked people and the time has come to call a spade a spade and revile who is what.THE GREASTEST TRICK THE DEVIL EVER PULLED IS HE MADE THE WORLD THINK HE DON’T EXIST.I see it like this they realized that they couldn’t stop the rap music movement, they took it over and are now using it to control our youth with only one type of music and that type is detrimental to the grow of our youth.
