What are you like 12..50 wasnt the first rapper to take his shirt off..Tupac used to do that..and LL Cool J before him used to do it…I dont know who started it but it definitely didnt start with 50 cent

    • The Sick One

and in fact..Eminem took off his top b4 50 did…

  • The Sick One

  • John Galt

Steroids started in baseball because steroids=money there. You bulk up, you hit a bunch of homers, you throw a ball 98, and you get paid. Just check out the contracts Miguel Tejada, Jason Giambi, Clemens, guys like that ended up signing. Even lesser guys, like Guillermo Mota, get paid.

To put that in terms of music, I could see why a guy like 50 roids up. I’ve always found him to be mediocre at best, but if he wants to sell “candy shop” or whatever to a bunch of suburban teenage girls, they have to view him as a sex object. For him, steroids=image=money. It’s harder to get why Mary J. Blige saw the need. I never liked her anyway.

Only one thing I disagree with, baseball can never blame hip-hop for steroids. They can’t, everyone’s too busy blaming baseball. Look at football, where probably about 90% of offensive and defensive linemen are juiced to the max, 350 pounds and such, and yet all anyone talks about is Roger Clemens.

    • Jew-Z

steroids started with the russian olympic team in the 1950′s

      • John Galt

Wasn’t saying steroids originated in baseball, just saying why they started there. That said, about 99% of the time, people only associate steroids in sports with baseball. (The other 1% is Marion Jones)

    • big texas

man u stupid…i play football and im 6’7 340 in college and i dont know anybody that ive ever played wit that use steriods. im not goin to say all cause some do but most football players dont even think about usin that shit…we are suppose to be big dumbass…thats y we weigh ’350 pounds and such’…baseball players use it cause they want to hit a ball further or throw it faster without being 350 so they try to get the muscle without the fat…thats some bullshit u sayin about oline and dline…all of us are still fat…in that case dont u think we would just try to be all muscle stupid

      • John Galt

And then there’s Dana Stubblefield, and then there’s Todd Steussie, and Shawne Merriman — ok, fine, he’s a linebacker — and Bill Romanowski, Barrett Robbins, and that’s just off the top of my head. Don’t forget the former BYU lineman, now radio host, who said 15 guys on his team were juicing — even the Mormons are on this tip!

You can call me stupid all you want, I’ve certainly been called worse. But I’d have to call you naive if you think there aren’t an overwhelming amount of linemen on steroids, or HGH, which they can’t really test for.

I commend you for putting on weight the conventional way — eating lots and lots of food. Hopefully that doesn’t cost you down the road healthwise. Regardless, I’ll bet you even some of your “fat” peers seek out an extra edge in terms of strength. Ask around, boy.

first of all, shawn merriman and Bill Romanowski are linebackers, not linemen. second, i should be specific in sayin that im takin up for offensive linemen. the thing about o-linemen is that it doesnt really matter how strong u are if u dont have technique. and we might eat alot but we are in better shape than people half our size. u dont see us gettin out of the game at anytime except for a blow out.but u do make a good point. anyway it goes we dont need that shit in the game. i feel what u sayin

  • Jason Murk

Why do people automatically assume big niggas take steroids?

I’m bout the same size as 50. I ain’t never took shit… but yet I get accused all the got damn time of shootin up. The shit gets old.

So how are rappers supposed to look? Should they all be fat as hell like biggie? Then people would complain how out of shape the hip hop nation is. Should they all be scrawny soulja boy? Then people would complain about how hip hop niggas are weak as hell.

I really don’t see the problem with rappers getting in shape… and as far as steroids go, I’m not gonna accuse anybody of that unless there’s proof somewhere

  • The Sick One

Know what I hate…people saying such n such is for teenage girls or lil kids…I know as a fact there’s men out there listenin to alot of this shit to and alot buyin into image like..”aww man, [enter rapper] will fuck [enter next rapper] up..u seen how big he is”…it aint jus young girls n lil teens..Im a teen..if its a good song its good..if its wack its wack…Also gtfo that 50 sold out shit…u liked him when he dropped GRODT…alotta people did..he was at the top..he brokw records, people bought into the gangsta image..who the fuck else he gon sell out to if he had peeps eatin out his hand

  • KLETEWOOD

I’m from the BAy….The same place where BALCO be from and Steroids are easy to get.

Seeing this shit everywhere makes me know that STEROIDS are a phase in a persons life. You can only juice up a few times and then your done with it. You can’t stay consistantly juiced 24/7/365 and the rest of your life.

With that said, these rappers will phase off the roids…

Shit…half my football team was on Steroids. Not to mention…my homeboys juicing before they had to go to the pen.

People do feeeeen for that shit though!

  • Fire

And cosign Jason Murk and John Galt.

  • The Miz

Yo why do people care who was taking their shirts off first? yeah thats really important

  • master cheef

now, that was a good drop. bringin the funny and the insight into the game. and hey, it even had to do with rap music. much better.

  • dOM!N8

    dope drop, makes great sense.

    Another well-thought post.

There’s no hope when record companies are putting their money into shirtless guys instead of musical talent. But music has never really driven record sales cause most consumers don’t actually care about music. How sad.

I don’t know who to be more pissed at – the record companies for peddling this shit or the consumers for buying this shit. I guess I just hate them both.

  • The Sick One

All consumers of music care about music otherwise they wouldn’t buy…it’s just not music you like. If they liked a shirtless guy/rapper they’d go and buy a poster and would prolly like their music as it is. You aint gon listen to somethin u dont like.

  • Swizzie

    Wise, wise man.

  • ON1

people care about the music. but people don’t know what music realy is.don’t know chords, notes, scales, time. etc.people buy what they have been brainwashed to like. its a game. record companies are in the business of selling packaging, just like most major companies. image sells. familiarity is comfortable therefore easy for people to buy into, sex symbols sell, cheap dance moves sell, simple lyrics and catchy hooks sell, bling sells. sales does not equal good music. people buy what’s sold to them because they think they like it. its propaganda. turn off the radio and all the promotion and find something you really like…. oops my bad. you aint into what’s real music… yu caught up in the hype…. yeah buy wat you like…

  • John Galt

I don’t think 50 sold out, I just think he was never really that compelling. I’ve never felt the need to own one of his CDs. And don’t tell me he’s not marketing at least some of his stuff to little Tiffany in Upper Saddle River. Don’t get me wrong, lyrics like these are hardbody regardless –

Good Evening Ladies I tell you from the start
I’m hoping you enjoy my amusement park
There’s lots of activities fun things to do
And now I find my pleasure in pleasing you
