    Could not have said it better myself. my brother and them were all excited yesterday…I told them just wait till November. i will be will bet the farm that racial prejudice will not allow a black(ish) man to win presidency. Not at this point in time. But I still have the audacity to hope that i’m proven wrong.

    Although I’m too young to have experienced tolerance fatigue with some of the older people you mentioned, I do believe in the social phenomenon your referring to. It’s something worth exploring further. But if that does kick in November there’ll be a bigger problem. If voters to do run to their “safe zone” at that point, won’t their safe zone reside in the Republican party? At that point there’ll only be two candidates.

    If people are going to ultimately run to their safe zone let’s hope they do it during the primary, before Obama gets the nomination only to have people experience tolerance fatigue during the actual election.

    The thing is you guys try to figure out every reason why he can’t win. He just won in Iowa, a state that has not elected a black person to anything. They are four percent black or maybe less, and he won convincingly. Now what will be said if he wins in New Hampshire? More confused white people. The only people who are stopping him from blowing it out the water are black people. Why, because we are so nostalgic that we believe that everything was good when Clinton, Bill Clinton was in charge. We seem to think that his wife will make it all good for us too. Quit being blind, they are not the same person, you can keep believing that he will make it better if you like, me, not so convinced.

    White people are believing in a Black man, but Black people are not, real confusing to me.

    If he had no support from white people we would be writing nothing but good things. Support Barack Obama, get the punk out ya blood.

    yo Purple Hulk, I agree with you on your comment about how many people would vote for Obama simply because he is black, rather than supporting his issues…other than that, you can eat a dick sandwich.

    let’s be honest, is the world ready for an African-American president? or really, any individual who isn’t an old Caucasian male reppin’ that damn elephant? like it was already stated, people like to lie to themselves in order to make themselves feel better…but the world would be much better off if everyone would come to their senses and just be honest. everyone has their own set of stereotypes and stigmas that they go by, and I dont ever see that changing.

    but on a positive note, I hope to see Obama win. it would be a HUGE step for African-Americans…and if he does win, I just hope they dont JFK my dude. *knocks on wood*

    I can’t view Jay’s vlog on my computer at work so I can’t comment on that directly, but I still have some comments I want to make about Obama’s win in Iowa. I don’t think people realize how significant the fact that Obama won 38% of his party’s vote in a state that’s over 96% white really is (and most of the non-whites are probably Indians). I don’t care what anyone says, that shows that a significant number of white people really AREN’T racist anymore. I’ve checked out some of the comments on other websites and a great number of whites were talking about how they feel that he’s simply the smartest person running, and that they really like his vision and his ideas. I have white friends who I know are being completely honest, that tell me that they are more excited about Obama than they’ve ever been about a presidential candidate. Heck, I’m more excited about politics than I’ve ever been now that Obama is running. One thing that I personally really like about Obama is his willingness to engage nations that traditional politicians refuse to talk to. This is monumental in my view. I also like his perspective on trade policy; he’s the only candidate that balances protecting American workers’ interest with the understanding that isolation and ignoring globalization will only hurt us severely in the long run (something that Edwards, as well intentioned as he may be, does not seem to get yet) in a thoughtful and comprehensive way.

    I find it troubling that so many blacks seem to be “scared” to support him. I think missle6000 is right in that the “only people who are stopping him from blowing it out the water are black people”, which is really a shame. You are whatever you believe that you are, so get that punk out ya blood and believe that he has just as great a chance as winning as anybody else. And for the people that are critical of people who support Obama without understanding what he stands for, MOSTt people usually vote for candidates without knowing what they stand for: they vote on the general impression and the overall feel that they get from a candidate. That’s just a condition of American voting period. People have been electing candidates based on looks, last names, etc., for years and now that a black man has a chance of winning, you expect some higher level of justification for voting for him. I actually think that Obama supporters seem to be more shrewd and better informed than the people who support the other candidates (which he trumps all the other candidates among Independents and the highly educated), why aren’t you attacking them?

    If a majority of the people saying they are going for Obama don’t end up voting for him I bet it is mainly because they are to lazy to actually get out and vote. Most people I know have an opinion about whats going on in politics or they voice their “support” for a candidate in a casual discussion but when it comes down to it they wouldn’t be caught dead at a voting booth. Tell me I’m lying.
