She’s bossy

In one of the more bizarre hip-hop arrests of the year (and that’s really saying something) Kelis was booked on misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence in Miami early Friday morning. I spent a good hour on the Internet yesterday trawling through the mess of pseudo-journalism out there, trying to figure out what actually happened. To no avail.

Your guess is pretty much as good as mine on this one, but it looks like what went down is that Nas and his boys were approached by some female cops on the street that had gone undercover as prostitutes. K saw them hit up her hubby and went off, apparently screaming racial profanities. Of course, when they pulled out their badges, this only made Mrs. Jones even more mad. Obviously the sting operation was disrupted and had to be aborted, which apparently is grounds for arrest. A police report claimed that Kelis’ actions “caused people walking by to stop and form a crowd. The sidewalk was blocked by the disturbance causing people to walk in the street and caused traffic to stop.” And that’s a serious problem, clearly.

I’m going to have to go ahead and side with Kelis on this one. If I saw some streetwalkers trying to solicit my man, I might get a little choked myself. I might need to ring the alarm. And if I found out they were actually police officers busy trying to entrap him and throw his ass in jail, you might find me causing a commotion too.

The weirdest part of the whole story, though, is what Esco had to say about the whole thing. Apparently he claimed to have mistook the ladies of the night for members of the Pussycat Dolls. This is obviously a little suspect, but utterly hilarious nonetheless.

There’s two things I’m willing to bet on here. First: the hip-hop cops had to have had a hand in this fiasco. And second: that upcoming MTV reality show Me & Mr. Jones is going to be highly entertaining.

So Nas was involved. I didn’t hear that. I wonder what the slurs were…?

And that Nas link is broken.

Does anyone else think it’s sort of pathetic that Nas is doing a reality show? I have nothing against them, it just seems like the sort of thing that would affect his legacy and would be easy fodder not to take him seriously. If the rapper doing it were anybody but Nas, I think a lot of hardcore Nas fans would be crying “sell-out”. I know it’s all “get that paper” but this just seems sad.

No. Stop trying too hard to be negative and critical. The more fame and publicity rappers like Nas get, the better, even if there are assholes that will try to trivialize what he’s doing. I just hope MTV doesn’t use it as an opportunity to edit things into something they’re not.

I don’t have to try hard, I’m just calling it like it is. Do you call-out every douche who complains the hip hop is dead? Is Nas complaining? Why am I complaining when I ask a question? Nas is trivializing himself when he does a reality show like this. If you’re fine with that, that’s one thing, but don’t try to claim my criticism isn’t legit. Not to mention, find me a reality show that doesn’t edit things into something they’re not.

Musicians seems to temporary forget about their legacy and sign on to do this bullshit and then they wonder why no one takes them seriously. Even Ozzy Osbourne kind of ruined himself from being the dude from Sabbath/Ozzy solo to funny babbling guy on MTV. Not a good look.

    LMFAO @ Ereal …

Yo’ that bitch doesn’t miss a beat .. she never post on anyone else’s blog. This bitch pro’lly sits in front of her PC wit a box of stale Dunkin’ Donuts just waitin’ for Tara to post .. that’s some serious hate in yo’ blood.

Now on to the topic. I just thought of something. Any undercover hip hop cop posing as prostitute gotta be dumb tryna entrap Nas. I don’t think any rapper with the fame and money Nas has would EVER pay for pussy???

There are so many other bitches out there just dying to give their shit away for free like it was government cheese that if Nas actually would have fallen into the this trap he should’ve been arrest for 1st degree stupidity rather than soliciting a prostitute.

  • EReal

As far as Nas doing a reality show I think its a good idea. Maybe it will open up an opportunity for this new generation of idiot rap fans to take a look at Nas’s body of work and maybe appreciate something beyond ‘throwin D’s’ and ‘makin it rain’ , Kna mean?

    EREAL-
Thanks for the actual response. You could be totally right about it bringing a renewed interest in Nas, that certainly did happen with Ozzy Osbourne. However, it didn’t happen with Rev. Run, which was more towards my point. Young rap fans just don’t seem to have that much of an interest in going-back.And since reality shows are primarily made to laugh at people, the ‘Make It Rain’ fans may just have one more way to laugh at “old-ass Nas”…

    BrandonSoderberg:

This is why you’re an asshole –> “The ‘Make It Rain’ fans may just have one more way to laugh at “old-ass Nas.’ ”

I’ve never heard anyone laugh at Nas or call him “old-ass Nas.” But you go write it like it’s something people are saying — that’s the same as when a Fox News anchor starts a talking point with the words “some say that….” You don’t have any legitimate substantiation, so you just try to create the sentiment. It’s obnoxious, especially when it’s to put down a chance to see what makes Nas tick.

There’s a HUGE difference between Ozzy Osbourne and Nas. Ozzy was always an idiot, plus now he’s senile. Nas is a smart, complex person who has repeatedly shown he has a tremendous amount to offer to the world just by speaking his mind.

And then for you to say, “Why am I complaining when I ask a question?”
after you specifically said, “I know it’s all ‘get that paper’ but this just seems sad” just shows that you either can’t follow simple logic, are an asshole liar, or that you blatantly disregard the truth to try to make points. At the very least, you were trying to spin a negative viewpoint.

How is Nas possibly trivializing himself by getting a forum he can use to voice his views? And what the fuck does a “legacy” matter? “Legacies” are dictated by the corporate rockist media, so they only matter to people who buy that crap. The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan are “The Greatest of All Time.” Sure, whatever. Nas would never get his just due anyway.

And if you’ve actually listened to Hip-Hop is Dead, you’d clearly know that that isn’t what Nas is actually saying with the album. Unless you’re too stupid to be able take anything beyond it’s purely literal interpretation.

How can you say that your criticism of Nas for the show is legit when they show hasn’t even aired? People are always quick to criticize things because they think it makes them sound smart. But it shows a lot more smarts and guts to be the first to point out when something is good, because it shows you truly understand whatever that something is about.

  • http://brandonsoderberg.blogspot.com brandonsoderberg

    NickeNitro-
What is your problem? I’m just some jerkoff on a message board, why do you have it out for me? “Old ass Nas” was obviously me being over-the-top for EFFECT but I do think it has some validity. Nas is going the way of Public Enemy and a lot of other groups as something that isn’t really “old” or “outdated” but the current rap climate would consider them so. No one would can disagree with that.

When you call one of your albums “Stillmatic”, when you talk about rappers these days (as he did in his XXL interview a few months back) you’re clearly concerned about legacy. I listen to Nas, believe it or not, so I don’t have it out for the guy.

As for Ozzy, whether you like it not, Black Sabbath are pretty good. Sorry if that’s too “rockist” for you. ‘Paranoid’ by Sabbath is a pretty affecting song about depression that anyone who isn’t totally close-minded should be able to relate to…

Calling something “sad” as in unfortunate or even pathetic is not complaining. I really did ask a question, perhaps a loaded one, but a question nonetheless. Anyone being honest would have to admit Nas is a bit confused as of late. Although ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ certainly show he’s gained focus somewhat, the story of his post-’It Was Written’ career has been one that is hard to fully understand. Dude, I’m fine with it, it doesn’t matter what Nas does, he can go on ‘Hollywood Squares’ if he wants, but I would say it has the POTENTIAL to trivialize him and lessen the effects of Nas “speaking his mind”.

I don’t have to “sound smart” I am smart.

    BrandonS:

Congratulations on being “smart” — I’m happy for you. We should all be so lucky I guess.

Since you’re asking, my problem is college rock people who talk negative sideways shit about hip-hop whenever they get a chance. I make that vividly clear. I have no idea what the fuck a “current rap climate” is, or what makes something “relevant,” or what a “story of Nas’s post-It Was Written career” is supposed to mean, or any other BS, so what you say doesn’t make sense to me. I guess you’re just “smart” like that.

Maybe I’d understand how great Black Sabbath is supposed to be if I were affected by depression or part their target adolescent male audience. As I’m neither, their music doesn’t appeal to me. Sorry, maybe I’m just not “smart” enough.
