Solo 45 Begins Trial After Being Charged With 22 Counts of Rape

Solo 45 is currently on trial facing 22 counts of rape, two charges of actual bodily harm, five false imprisonments charges and two counts of assault by penetration.

The grime artist appeared in Bristol Crown Court in London on Thursday (Jan. 10) to hear testimony from four different women who have accused the rapper of rape. The trial is expected to last for five weeks.

According to the Bristol Post, prosecutor Christopher Quinlan QC used his opening statement to tell the jury about Solo 45’s alleged disturbing acts against women. Those acts include waterboarding, pouring bleach into one of the victim's mouths and allegedly imprisoning some of the women and raping them repeatedly. “He attacked them physically, sexually and mentally,” Quinlan said.

The jury also watched footage of alleged sex acts carried out by Solo 45 as he would sometimes record his sexual assaults. “What happens is, quite simply, brutal,” Quinlan told the jurors. “They are both naked. She is upset. At all times he is directing her what to do.”

Solo 45, whose real name is Andy Anokye, has denied all of the charges against him. He appeared in court wearing a white shirt, dark tie and navy blue suit.

The rapper is an artist on Boy Better Know a record label and rap collective founded by Skepta, who took home the 2016 Mercury Prize for his Konnichiwa album.
