Lawsuits Threatened in Billboard 200 Album Chart Mess Involving Travis Scott and 6ix9ine

Things are heating up in the case of Travis Scott's Astroworld album verses 6ix9ine's Dummy Boy after Nielsen Music reported a processing discrepancy last week, which directly affected the Billboard 200 album chart positions.

In a report provided by Hits Daily Double, lawsuits were apparently threatened last Friday (Dec. 7) in multiple meetings between Sony, Billboard, Nielsen and Create Music Group (the distributor of 6ix9ine’s Dummy Boy) over Nielsen's inaccuracies regarding streaming numbers on Tidal and SoundCloud. Soundcloud reportedly issued 6ix9ine's streaming numbers late, which resulted in the streams being disqualified.

"Our team has done a deep dive and found the cause of the initial discrepancy," Nielsen's Drew Bennett told Hits Daily Double. "We've since then reprocessed the jobs necessary and re-finalized the charts. As a result, 6ix9ine's Dummy Boy will be moving to #1... Our team is working quickly to identify the root cause of this discrepancy to ensure that we get it right the first time."

On the Nielsen Music website today (Dec. 10), it states that the chart information regarding accurate album sales is "currently unavailable." "Notice: The Charts and all chart related features are currently unavailable for Week 48 2018 forward. This functionality will return soon," Nielsen Music's website states.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Astroworld reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. However, according to a statement from Billboard, there was a chart processing error that caused La Flame's album to rise to No. 1. As a result, Nielsen Music is auditing the numbers.
